David Hentschel produced some wonderful albums from Genesis and Renaissance in the mid/late '70s.

I am going to start to put Genesis' Trick of a Tail up against Renaissance's A song for all seasons.

I am going to go with A song for all seasons, as I just feel the high points of this album go beyond those to be found on Trick.

I feel I maybe on my own here......but let's see!

I nearly always vote for Renaissance over Genesis in any poll - unless the Renaissance album happens to be Time-Line. Smile

If we are voting on the impact of hentscel on the bands sound then its SFAS. If it's purely on the albums strength then TOTT wins.
I have voted on the former.

Greetings!

That is a very good distinction. I think at the back of mind it was part of my thinking to consider the impact of Hentschel on each band - as it was hugely significant!

Renaissance for sure, an exceptional 5 star album vs a solid 4 star album

ATOTT obviously. Everything is a balance. David went a little overboard on the orchestrations on Song For All Seasons. Still a good album though, it could have been even better. Then he went the other way on Azure D'Or.

A Song for All Seasons.

Genesis gets more than enough love around here.

I thought it was a poll about production for a moment then, rather than a general which do you prefer poll..

I prefer Trick, and the production is better too :-)

Prefer the album Trick of the Tail as such and also the production. All the instruments make the sound kinda dense on SFAS with thin sounding drums as well. Just compare with Novella, the latter sounds so much fuller and more beautiful IMO.

There's nothing special about the sound of Trick but ASfAS is a production clinic

I would have to agree with this - it is a wonderful sounding record.
