Pow R. Toc H. - an early avant-garde number that doesn't get much attention

I said this in a previous poll on the topic:

This is a great album. There are many tracks that deserve votes, making it hard to pick just one. The natural favourite is "Interstellar Overdrive", but I've always had a particular fondness for "Lucifer Sam", so it gets my vote.

Bike.

For the lyrics "I know a mouse, and he hasn't got a house, I don't know why I call him Gerald. He's getting rather old, but he's a good mouse".

None of them.
I've had this album since 1972 and I don't think I've played it for over 45 years. And I doubt if I'd play it again if I lived for another 45.

Interstellar. The extended version is also pretty cool.

I can't choose. It's all excellent. I'm voting for Chapter 24 because of its cryptic relationship with I-Ching.
Just because at this moment it has zero votes.

Interstellar Overdrive. Other good ones: Pow R Toc H, Stethoscope, Bike.

Astronomy Domine is just a blueprint for the Ummagumma version.

To be honest I prefer that early longer version from the London 66-67 stuff.

I think all four live tracks on Ummagumma are superior to their studio versions.

For me the stand outs are Astronomy Dominé, Interstellar Overdrive, but see my comments above, and of course 'Bike' - possibly the best album coda (closing track) ever.

Definitley so. Though still, my favourite version of the song is the one on Pulse... even if it's closer to the original one, but that one is all the more energetic and mature. However, in general, just about any of the early songs that was made live back then was better than the studio versions... except perhaps for Atom Heart Mother and Echoes.

The night I saw them at Earls Court back in 1994 they opened the second part of the show with 'Astronomy Dominé' along with a 60's style lava lamp slide show!

^ Nice, I wish I had been there, but I was still a bit young for going to concerts alone, and more important, I didn't know Pink Floyd yet (well, of course I knew they existed, but hadn't gotten into them, or music in general, still).

The Gnome is a great song. It deserves at least one vote.
