I clicked on a rating just to see how it would effect the over all score but I didn't mean for it to be permanent. I tried clicking it again but it didn't seem to work. How do I undo this rating? Does a moderator need to be involved? Thanks.

In the past, admins could fix that, but I am not sure what gnarly powers they may have these days. Contact one of our adorable admins and they may be able to help you.

You can http://www.progarchives.com/ReviewerPage.asp" rel="nofollow - edit reviews / ratings if you want to post your review.

I will delete your rating (BOLT?) if you don't do so.

How do you undo a rating? Destroy all of its horcruxes.

Yes, it's for Bolt. Before you delete it though let me just say that there seems to be no way for me to undo that rating. I'm not talking about reviews here I'm referring only to ratings. If there is a way for me to do it without having a moderator do it then I would prefer to do it myself. The whole point of me starting this thread was for me to figure out how to do it or get someone to tell me how to do it and not for someone to do it for me(if at all possible). However, if only a moderator can delete a rating then go ahead and do so. Thanks.

You talk sweet things to it, buy it some flowers and then gently remove its bra.

No, I won't. That rating was a mistake. I was just trying to see if I could do it and then undo it. There seems to be no way for me to undo it on my own. My policy is to not rate albums without reviews. That was just an experiment on my part.

It happened to me once, but luckily I knew the album so I decided to write a review.

I'm also interested in this question - how do I delete a rating?

I've accidentally rated an album I haven't actually listened to (was meaning to rate another album by the same artist).
I could correct it by buying the album and actually listening, but it's not an artist I'm particularly inspired to explore further TBH, so I'd rather just delete the rating altogether.

^ Only an admin can delete a rating completely. You can edit your rating at anytime just by clicking on the appropriate star whilst you're logged into the main site, but there is no means of getting rid of the rating altogether unfortunately.

It's all too easy to accidentally rate an album when you're logged into the main site by carelessly clicking on the row of grey stars just above the link to an album on an artist's main page instead of the link itself, and it's happened to me half a dozen times now, usually when I've been in a rush to get things done late at night and not really focussing on what I'm doing.

I just edited each accidental rating to 4 stars as a temporary solution to the error, since this neither unfairly penalises an artist nor overpraises them to any great extent, but after the number of unintentional ratings I had made had reached six, I got Greg to delete them all for me.

The effect of a single rating on the overall score of an album is fairly insignificant anyway if a decent number of reviews have been posted for that album, since a rating is given a weight of only 1, whereas a review is given a weight of 10 and a review by a collaborator a weight of 20 when calculating the overall score of an album. If the album has no reviews and only a few ratings, then the effect of an unintentional rating will become significant, however.

Edit: I wouldn't mind betting that quite a significant number of ratings have been added to the site accidentally without people realising that they've done it due to the really close proximity of that row of grey stars to the album link just below it on an artist's main page.

M@X could make the site a whole lot better imho if he removed these rows of clickable grey stars from the artist's main pages altogether, so that you had to actually go to an album page itself in order to be able to add a rating, and where the row of clickable grey stars is located well away from any other clickable links, and thus far less likely to be clicked upon accidentally.

Not sure if there is an elegant solution, I haven't found one, but if you edit your rating to add a review I can then delete the review and it takes the rating with it.

^ I'm pretty sure that as an admin you can simply delete a rating without the need for a review to be written. Greg deleted the six ratings that I had accidentally added without the need for me to write any reviews, and that was quite recently - at the beginning of May this year.
