I just find Pink Floyd's music depressing. I barely listened to (more than some of) their songs multiple times and never internalized their spirit. Thus, I never got depressed under their weight. I like some "lighter" bands that make music in the vein of Pink Floyd though; such as the Polish band Collage.
While,
Gryphon does/did one of the most uplifting musics for me.
Please do understand that this is meant to be a light-hearted poll. My intention is nothing other than this.

I think it was a foregone conclusion that Pink Floyd were going to win this poll Comfortably.

Most likely Pink Floyd is going to win this one. I'm voting for Gryphon though, a superb, under appreciated band.

They are not in the same universe. Musically, they're not even compatible for comparison. Looking for some sort of "positivity" in their message compared to Floyd, you might as well use Huey Lewis & the News from a comparative standpoint, and listen to "Power of Love" on an endless loop. One band, Floyd, is great, the other had a couple decent albums, then dropped off the face of the planet for several decades.

^ Greg, I wasn't offended by your comment, first of all. I actually wasn't going to give a reply, too. But you said "you", so I decided to do so.
Though, I can give perhaps 15 "types" of replies, but not in the mood for discussion now. Mind you, my replies wouldn't be of sorts to prove that you're wrong. And, you aren't actually; quintessentially...
Thanks for your input.

I was gonna vote for "Cristi's cat" in a poll somewhere here. But I was checking the forum from my mobile then, and forgot thereafter.
So, it this what they say karma?

Wasn't necessarily trying to be offensive, although I suppose my reply was a bit caustic. Just a weird comparison between 2 bands that have really no common ground. Other than they spoke the same language and released albums in the same general time frame.

I actually prefer Gryphon's music to Floyd's. But that doesn't mean I think they are a 'better band' or such. As stated above, two completely different bands and styles of music. May as well compare the TV shows Jessica Jones and Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. Both on TV, both have female leads...absolutely nothing in common.

I have been very into both since I was young, and both have been two of my very favourite bands. While Pink Floyd is and has been more important to me, I’m still voting for both. I wouldn’t have wanted to be without either of them. By the way, I haven’t heard the latest Gryphon album, ReInvention, but I really liked the first five albums.
It may be apples and oranges, but for me the Atom Heart Mother suite and (Ein Klein) Heldenleben work well together when played sequentially.
Edit: Forgot there was a more recent Gryphon album called "Dude, that's my father's car, get out of it", or something like that. Haven't heard it

Hang on, so it's not the Punk Floyd that we are talking about that released that seminal album "Never Mind the Bulls, Sheep, Dogs, Flying Pigs, Several Species of Small Furry Animals et cetera, Here's the Punk Floyd"? Well then, Gryphon it is.

For your attention,
Everyone is free to see anything however they like.
In the arcade game Street Fighter, Ken can fight Zangief. It is written as Ken vs. Zangief on the screen. What do they have that much things in common?
If a poll asks "your favourite", you are not bound to compare or contrast anything. The fact that I did so in my original post, doesn't necessarily mean that you should do likewisely. Bubblegum vs. Turkish Delight... You just can pick your "favourite"...
The "vs." thing ONLY means that, it is to ascertain which band will be victorious precisely by getting the most votes here. I can already congragulate Pink Floyd here. For their "healthy" (?) impact in the world.
There's even a "Mozart or Shakespear" poll here in this forum. It is amazing that, some people who "should" know this are critical on me.
Anyway, sorry for suspending my light-heartedness for a short time. We all can sin.

Özgür, a small dose of Pink Floyd every once in a while may counterbalance an overdose of happiness...
I hardly listen to Gryphon anymore - I maybe should do that again - and Pink Floyd has never depressed me. To me they are not in the same league, so this is an easy choice for me, though I always liked Gryphon too.

Thanks kees.
I see happiness differently, probably. I see it merely as an element on contentment. Or to put it better: a balanced happiness should mean contentment.
As for PF not being depressive earlier, or the claim thereof: As far as I know, depression does not commence at birth.
BTW, I didn't claim and actually don't think that PF's music is depressive for anybody.

Agree, but sad (or depressing) music will not cause it either - at least not with me. But, indeed, generally we cannot consider PF very uplifting, but if you want uplifting PF, you just play The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. It works!

I must say, one of my first thoughts was, just how much Pink Floyd have you listened to, maybe you need to listen to more, so here's some More.
Interestingly, two of my favourite Gryphon tracks are Lament and the Unquiet Grave (love their rendition).

^ I've probably listened a good half of the PF songs. And only listened to perhaps 10 of them more than a couple of times. I honestly am not interested Greg, sorry... It is not a prejudice, but a solid conviction.
Though, I'll check this song out for fun! And see if I listened to it, or remember having listened to it earlier.

Love both bands..but The Floyd for me. Gryphon is something I have to be in the mood for. Floyd has so many different flavours to chose from, so it’s easier to pick something that corresponds with my cabeza. I do however tend to go for the Floyd stuff that comes before the big albums such as Dark Side, Wish You Were Deer and Animals. Methinks a person who digs Gryphon would prefer the Atom Heart Mother suite over pretty much anything other Floyd. Is it upbeat? Sure if you have teets and say mooouuh!

I agree. I do like their multimillion-selling 1970's classics as well, but Meddle,Saucerful of Secrets, Piper at the Gates of Dawn and Atom Heart Mother are my four favorite PF-albums. A quartet of albums mostly filled with playful, beautiful, trippy and uplifting music. I'm pretty much always in the mood for them.
-Anyway voted Floyd of course. Gryphon are cozy to revist a couple of times each decade I suppose. And I understand why someone wanting some "feelgood" 70's prog reaches for (the wonderful) Midnight Mushrumps over Animals (which I too find slightly depressing). But I think there's a good reason the former band are so important to so many, and the latter is simply a footnote in the history of prog rock. Btw, this is not how I see things in general. Small forgotten bands can obviously be more interesting and "better" than household names. But Pink Floyd were groundbreaking innovaters musically - in addition to being hugely successful.
