When it comes to the instrumental pieces performed in solo, harpsichord is my favourite instrument. On a par with the harp & flute (together) for me, in Western Classical Music.

Then comes the piano, organ, and the acoustic guitar.

The hammered dulcimer is also a joy to listen to, both in Eastern and Western music.

I somehow don't like the violin performed in solo that much. String quartets and similar string formations are great, though.

If we take the modern technology into account, a synthesizer wizard can work miracles by himself/herself!

Any thoughts?

Thoughts are thinking
Thoughts are coming
Thoughts are screaming
Thoughts keep coming
Thoughts are coming
Thoughts are coming down

Thoughts are thinking; Thunk from knowing
Thoughts repeating; Harm is showing
Thoughts forever keep me going down
I thought my time was almost done
I thought I knew which way to run
I thought of how this began
I thought of where to go for lunch
I thought I'd give her what she wants
I thought the dream makes the man

Bats are crawling on my skin
I hear blood-letting thoughts beginning now

The more I try to not give in
The more I think my thoughts are winning now

^That's sure to get me banned by the admins.
But in all fairness, you did ask for thoughts !

^ Well, I checked the multiple meanings of the word "thought" out, and saw nothing wrong with it in this context. Unless one takes notes on such things, s/he provides such threads with suitable content by thinking, and the products thereof are "thoughts".

BTW, everything seems to be dead including this forum. So you, as a good contributor of the forum, should try much harder to be banned. LOL

I'm more of a boat rocker than a 5hit disturber.
But I do what I can to upset the status quo. Thumbs Up

I like the harpsichord a lot but not so much quite a bit of the old music that was written for it solo.
In my collection there's far more piano and acoustic guitar solo music, quite a bit of which I love a lot. As many people here now, I'm also passionate for, and have a lot of electronic solo music, but maybe that doesn't count 100% as with electronics you can of course do more things at the same time as with any traditional instrument (even though some of the stuff I have is quite meditative and not multilayered).

Here's a solo piece for a piano that plays itself. Big smile

Speaking of "Thoughts", does a capella voice count as a solo instrument?

It crossed my mind and I believe it does: I see vocal chords as an (natural) instrument. I like a capella, but more with choir than in solo.

The classical "Handel" (video 1), and the classic game (my favourite) Baldur's Gate II (video 2). Quite similar pieces, don't you think? Cool

I'll submit The Escalation Process, written for organ.

^I've never even noticed that, but it looks like I might have as well.
That's a real thing? How are they 're-earned'?

^ Good question. Maybe we're supposed to pour gilden false idols into lead molds, depicting the admin team in all the integrity, righteousness, and glory their work implies.
