They are great fun aren't they? Eighteen studio albums since 2012, and I think all of them sans their debut and their latest release (Butterfly 3000) are really good - and about half of them are fantastic. My nine personal favorites are:

4.5 stars:
Polygondwanaland
Nonagon Infinity
Infest the Rats' Nest

4 stars:
Gumboot Soup
K.G.
L.W.
Flying Microtonal Banana
Murder of the Universe
Sketches of Brunswick East

-but I've yet to decide which one of the first three to vote for. How do you rate them and have you got a favorite?

I'm a newbie to the King Gizzard universe, but none of the studio albums I've heard so far compare to their Live in San Francisco '16 album...80 exhilarating minutes of non-stop musical chaos under complete and total control.

I saw KG&LW live in 2018 and it was spectacular. Still I rarely (closer to never, really) get a kick out of sitting at home listening to rock bands' live albums. Maybe I should give this one a shot, just to check if I feel differently.

One vote so far (my own). I actually thought they were relatively popular. Maybe less so at Prog Archives than on "general music" sites.

My most listened to band this year by a long shot, I really love most their discog, but Flying Microtonal Banana takes the crown for me! Them and Black Midi are the most exciting young bands currently active!

the only album of theirs I listened in its entirety is their thrash album from a couple of years ago. Surprisingly good album.
They have so many albums, I don't even know where to start. LOL

I have only had the chance to listen to their most recent five albums. Among those, I liked K.G. to the most.

Top 4 albums:
1. Float Along / Fill Your Lungs (pyschadelic jam sitar trip)
2. K.G. (cool psych pop-rock songs with microtonal instruments)
3. Nonagon Infinity (cool and HEAVY album that feels like just one song)
4. Sketches of Brunswick East (soft and jazzy)

I tend to prefer their microtonal albums. As Flying Banana is the first one and their most groundbeaking, I'll go with this one.

Yes I love Infest the Rat's Nest. I think Nonagon Infinity would be a perfect second start. More of a heavy psych album with riffs and odd meters galore. It'll grab your attention the opening second of the opening track. Polygonwanaland is considered their proggiest and should be the perfect third album. It also introduces you to their gentler side of KG&LW (which represents a large chunk of their output).

These guys are so good. Why is no one responding to this poll?

^ Well...I listened to Banana... and Poly...about 6 months ago ...wasn't aware of them before that and I thought they were very talented but the style of music they were doing simply didn't appeal to me.

They change their style a couple of times a year (or a couple of times in one album), so check out another one before you conclude it's not for you. Sketches Of Brunswick East is more like this:

I don't know. I suppose they're a band that grows on you with each new album, and there's no first album that really represents "what they are all about". Maybe most PA-members have a quick listen and decide it's not for them? - like dr wu23 over here. I didn't really "get them" at first when a friend introduced them to me either. I thought, ok pretty cool heavy psychrock or whatever, but didn't really catch what was so unique (and fun) about them until I stumbled over them again somewhere online in the middle of 2017. In the midst of their five albums in one year-craze. Having first hears some of the heavier stuff and "Restarting" with Sketches and taking it from there worked like magic for me.

I will go for Polygondwanaland. Gotta love that cocktail of styles.

I have sampled a good number of tracks from various albums, which left me with most appreciation for Polygondwanaland - actually the only one that my tasting gave me the idea I should have. But of course I may have missed much good stuff, I have nowhere near dived into everything.

Three days short of a year, or the 28th of October this poll is already outdated. As KG&tLW will have released five new albums by then Shocked

... Omnium Gatherum the double album that was released in April, is another highlight and thankfully much, much stronger than the newest in the poll (Butterfly 3000).

^ I know... And I really like Omnium Gatherum. As the title sort of implies, the double album gathers up an assortment of the various style KGLW have done over the years and mixes it all together in one place. One of my favorite albums this year.

Flying Microtonal Banana is my favourite so far.
