The lineage for Focus is clear and live they are still awesome. Their legacy also easily surpasses that of Nektar.

I like both, but I prefer Focus.

I thought we settled this in the http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=128760&KW=nektar+focus" rel="nofollow - Focus vs Nektar -poll in the beginning of April. Well, let's hope the far more awesome Nektar will do a little better this time.

Focus, because of the yodeling.

Two of my favorite bands from my youth. Back then, I probably preferred Nektar. Now I'm more likely to pull a Focus song onto a playlist--though I did just recently listen to both Recycled and Remember the Future all the way through and thoroughly enjoyed both.
Mega-respect for both Jan Akkerman and Roye Albrighton.

I enjoy both a lot, but Nektar gets my vote.

Yes, I'm not sure why we need another one unless the OP didn't like my poll format.

Didn't George Jefferson like Nektar?
He might give this band a point.

That would be Nektar. Never understood the love here for Hamburger Concerto. Gave it one listen then it was off to the used record store to unload it. Interesting poll, Sacro'.

^ I just found it amusing as it was literally the exact same poll with the exact same title - only a couple of weeks ago:). Pleased to see Nektar with 2/5 of the votes so far this time around.

Focus were good Nektar were crap
------------- All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

When Nektar hit that spot they really hit it and i love it.. but some of it sounds more heading towards Uriah heep territory, a bit leaden.. sorry, i do love them and the lps i play i really get into.
Focus is exactly the same really in terms of when they take off they sound so tight in an incredibly 'loose' fashion; relaxed, almost effortless and i love it. But some of it (much the minority) can sound a tiny bit pedestrian and souless. Again i love them and (parts of) the Focus 3 lp is one of my desert island discs.
In this case, Focus, narrowly, over Nektar

^ His playtime with poo is much longer usually, I think, whether his poo is on land or in the sea.;) Dr Prog's Playtime with Poo sounds like it could be a winning children's TV program. I prefer Nektar's Journey to the Centre of the Eye to A Tab in the Ocean. I vote for Focus in this repeat poll, by the way. And Hamburger Concerto has a kind of crescendo/ build-up that I adore in music.
------------- Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

^But what does HE mean by that (and let's not be coy)? I'll have to give 'Concerto another spin. Thanks.

^ I assumed that he meant that he tried playing A Tab in the Ocean recently, but only lasted five minutes into it because he found it "crap".

I assumed he meant the same as 'sending the Brown family to the Seaside'..

I like both bands, but find Nektar more substantial, more lively, more rocking, more memorable.
A Tab in the Ocean, Remember the Future, and Down to Earth are all more impressive than anything Focus released.
