King Crimson -- The Talking Drum & Larks' Tongues in Aspic pt II
Tangerine Dream - Ricochet
Ozric Tentacles - Psychic Chasm
SONAR - Orbit 5.7
The Psychedelic Ensemble - The Battle

With time, I can probably come up with more. A lot depends on what you consider "crazy and surreal".

I agree with Valentyne Suite, and also would add Nine Feet Underground by Caravan (have vocals tho). The Canterbury Scene at it finest.

*Anthony Phillips - Portraits From Tudor Times
*Plini - Selenium Forest

and on the other side: Mono - Pure as Snow, I urge anyone who hasn't listened to it yet to give it a listen.

Hi,

The one I like, but is a tough one for many folks on PA is Alan Stivell's bits in "SYMPHONIE CELTIQUE" when the last part in 2 sides of the four end up with an incredible cacophony of everything seemingly just ripping it all apart.

It's a tough listen, but in reality one of my favorites, When the music of the classics, meets the music of the present ... you have ... a total marriage of value, idea and above all ... music!

BTW, seeing FZ mentioned so many times, just tells you how little people have heard and appreciate 200 MOTELS. It is by far, the most surreal, and crazy thing ever done, that rock folks will never learn to appreciate. The satires are incredible, and right on the money. And the ending is something to die for and hope to hear once in your life ... even if all you can get is the UCLA revival many years later, with a choir showing us how it is done ... it is totally outstanding and far out ... but too many folks here are just married to the cheap popular music out there and shown in so many examples.

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

An Invocation and Ritual Dance of the Young Pumpkin should qualify

this Astromonster too, but it's not like I'm trying to come up with the most crazy & surreal tunes I got. I find them wildly creative and fun - I just enjoy them a lot

This is actually genuinely surreal

^ah... there's some ghostly worldess vocals in the SC3-track - it didn't really register as vocals while I was listening. Just think of it as a theremin or a saw:)

Perhaps no so crazy, but the four Mike Oldfield 70's albums are really magical. Also Histoires Sans Paroles from Harmonium. And perhaps a little bit crazier (just a little bit), Hamburger Concerto by Focus. Also, Judas Iscarios by Rick Wakeman. And a bit of Floyd, like Great Gig in the Sky, Careful with that Axe, Eugene, and Saucerful of Secrets.

What, no Residents?

I would agree with Fripp & Eno's "No Pussyfooting,' particularly "Swastika Girls"!
