I just learned that Roman Bunka, extraordinary guitar and oud player and member of the German band Embryo (among many other projects), died Jun 12th. he was my favorite guitar player. R.I.P.

here a link to a track from the 1979 live album of Aera with one of my favorite guitar solos of him:

This was very sad news for us; Jean and I loved his style. Here some more of his music:

With the trio Orientación (Luis Borda on guitar, Roman Bunka on oud and Jost Heckler on cello):

From his first solo album "Dein Kopf ist ein schlafendes Auto" with Roman on guitar and oud:

From his second solo album "Color Me Cairo", with Roman Bunka on guitar and oud:

He founded RoRo together with Roland Schaeffer of Guru Guru; Trilok Gurtu joined them occasionally-

He and his Korean wife Grace Yoon also participated in many audio plays, for example "Earborn", an audio play by the two of them, or "Goldberg - Ein Dutzend Täuschungen" by Maria Volk that also had contributions from Robert Fripp, Holger Czukay, Maceo Parker and Pee Wee Ellis, to name but a few.

That's just a small list. RIP, Roman, and thank you for so many hours of great music.

Very sad news. A very innovative player, whose work will surely stand the test of time. May he rest in peace.
