I noticed last night after lilstening to The Shape Of Rain that keyboardist Mickey Simmonds is not on here.

Mickey has played with Mike Oldfield, Fish, Camel, Renaissance and XII Alphonso. He also has done three solo albums. His album The Shape Of Rain is mostly mellow symphonic prog reminiscent of Camel. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to have a bandcamp page.

His "III" album is fantastic stuff, I absolutely love it!

Does anyone know if Simmonds is working on new music?

I was going to say Mickey Simmonds is already here - until I noticed the OP date at the top of the page. I'll give his three albums a listen tomorrow. Thumbs Up

Yeah, he's here - we (the Symphonic team) added him about a year ago, that's how I discovered his solo albums (though I was already familiar with some of his work with Camel and Renaissance among others). All three of his solo albums are good, but III is the one that stands out for me. I reviewed all his albums at the time, and I've recently re-listened to III a lot in the car on my way to and from work. I'm glad that I've inspired someone else to give them a spin!

I resurrected this thread in the hope that someone might know if Simmonds is active, perhaps recording new music. I sent his a message through the form on his site, but he never responded.

And here he is.....

MICKEY SIMMONDS      A recent addition to ProgArchives hallowed halls and one of the best keyboard players that no one outside of the progosphere has ever heard of. Drawing his inspiration from Keith Emerson,  Mickey Simmonds has worked with some of the major prog giants of our time, including Mike Oldfield, Renaissance, Camel and Fish, and er... The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band - but you can't win them all. Tongue

Simmonds definitely deserves more attention. I hope he will release further albums in the future.
