http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=130953&PN=1" rel="nofollow - After 1981 I felt like doing another Rate Your Music prog poll for 1980 as well. Another great year, I think. It pained me to leave out The Residents - Commercial Album, which was the next album after Saga. I even considered cheating. But I didn't.

You know what to do, don't you?

Three votes, right? I missed that in the earlier poll and gave quite a few more.
Three is hard. No way to not vote for Kate Bush, but then there's Art Zoyd, Fred Frith, Present, Saga, Zamla Mammas Manna plus a few more that are very good but not top three candidates. I think right now I feel like voting for Saga & ZMM, and be it just because verslibre biased me with a big cover picture.

PS Good that you left out the Commercial Album because it would've added to the difficulty.

Just three is tough. Lots I really like here, but the Bush, Art Zoyd, Eskaton, Picchio dal Pozzo and Rahmann albums are the most special to me. Going with the Art Zoyd, a top top-tiered album for me, the Bush which is so refreshing it never gets stale, and Rahmann. I am happy with those votes.

I am liking these limited multiple choice polls.

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I observed before. It can be much like that with music for me; immersed in experiencing the moment.

I agree even with three it's brutal. Art Zoyd, Rahmann and...

it's always the last option that feels impossible. Kate Bush Never For Ever is the one I've been listening to the most out of these. I do think its both wonderful and also a little uneven. I also have fond memories of listening to

I guess, it's good to tell that these three albums are labeled by RYM as first priority in this way:

Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel (aka Melt)  -  Art Rock
Kate Bush - Never For Ever  -  Art Pop
The Alan Parsons Project - The Turn of a Friendly Card  -  Art Rock

It would be good to know your exact search if you make more of these RYM top lists. Smile

There are multipe ways of creating different "specialized" charts. But none of them would single out exactly all the "PA-relevant" albums so I ended up just picking "prog" from the complete 1980 and 1981 charts, checking those I was uncertan about (and also excluding Prog-Related + Proto-Prog).

What is that Slapp Happy album doing there - unless you are referring to the release of the original 1973 recording of Acnalbasac Noom being released.  This was rejected by Virgin.

Yes the Slapp Happy album released in 1980 (by Reccomended Records) is the 1973-album version that Virgin refused to release.

Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band - Doc at the Radar Station
Peter Hammill - A Black Box
Zamla Mammaz Manna - Familjesprickor

I usually vote Pekka Pohjola whenever I can, but Kätkävaaran lohikäärme is among his weaker albums I think.
