Vediog Svaor was a French progressive black metal project spearheaded by musician/songwriter Matthieu Canaguier, who operated under the moniker Van Vadermark. Canaguier - who handled vocals, guitar, bass and drum programming - typically worked alone, but assembled a cast of five session players to accompany his debut release, which was a 1997 split cassette with fellow French black metal band Sentinel, helmed by Shantidas Riedacker. The following year, Canaguier retreated to a cabin in the woods of the Alpine mountain Montgelas to record his first and only full-length, In the Distance, which saw release in 2001 via Paragon Records.
