Another rather controversial album

So what do you think of it?
Do choose the last option if none of the others work for you. Tongue

The second option. Falling into Infinity is one of my Top 10 Progressive Metal albums - although that's no great recommendation, bearing in mind the only two Progressive Metal bands I know of are Ayreon and Dream Theater. Embarrassed

Great album to me. Underappreciated for sure.

never took to it that much... I always remember buying it when it came out and feeling it was a huge commercial sellout after Awake & Seasons... liked Peruvian Skies, but that was about it and I haven't heard it in 15 years now.

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

It's been a long time since I've heard it so I'll have to listen again before voting here. However, I remember thinking it was a bit spotty with some good moments but not very solid all the way through. I do remember seeing someone list it as their all time favorite album once which really surprised me.

It's almost great. The epic "Lines in the Sand" (with Doug Pinnick of King's X) makes it a keeper.

This is really an underappreciated and often overlooked album. It remains for me an excellent album of the band and of prog metal in general.

It's indeed a weaker album between greater ones. Still, indeed the studio did wrong by the band by interfering, listening to the Demos version I can hear many songs that did sound better before the studio convinced them to change them. And there are a few songs that I just don't understand why would have been left out, for I believe they would even have fitted on the radio.

I agree, they released the Falling Into Infinity demos and it's definitely a must listen, just for the songs that did not make the album and the early Metropolis 2 version.

^ Still, my favourite song in the album, New Millenium, is better in the official released... the demo version does sound unfinished. Trial of Tears I also prefer on its official release. But Your or Me and Burning my Soul are so much better in this demo untouched (by the producers) versions, they were really ruined. And how is it things like The Way it Used to Be, and Speak to Me were left out? Those ones I believe had some commercial appeal that is just what they would have wanted to use. As for the EArly Metropolis 2 version, I would love to have heard a more finished version with vocals... or perhaps... now I do rather dislike Medleys, but if they had used this one as a blueprint to make a Medley of the album in live shows, which would basically have been to reform the originally intended epic, I believe I would really have liked it a lot.

throw away "You Not Me" and "Anna Lee" and it's almost perfect. Re-discovered it five years ago, my top-5 DT album since

^ Listen to the demo version, "You or Me", it's much better. And then there are a few songs that didn't make it to the final album that might work nicely instead of Anna Lee too.

It's a good album, so second option for me. Things would be easier to read if the alphabet only had one letter.

yep, heard the demos, didn't really like them, especially "Burning My Soul" with "Hell's Kitchen" part doesn't work for me at all
