I like Holidays In Eden. Quite punchy playing with some nice hooks (in you!) . Yep it's nowhere near being a progressive rock album but that didn't seem to matter to me then (or now). I bought This Strange Engine but it didn't resonate and there seemed to be more interesting and creative bands springing up at the time such as Radiohead and Mansun that were more interesting. I was becoming aware of the prog revival and IQ released the massive Subterranea about this time as well. Marillion just were not interesting but they filled a hole at least for a while.

I think it has to be:

HiE, although I find the album too commercial overall, a bit like Genesis' Duke, it tops and tales very well.

TSE has a killer title track, which saves the album from being too samey and MOR overall (except the excruciating HftF which saw them go all 'Kid Creole & The Coconuts)

Anorak... never did anything much for me I'm afraid..

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

"Anorak..." is probably my 2nd favourite H-era album after "Afraid of Sunlight", and for similar reasons. They are both very simply filled with nice tunes!

TSE, as the title track, Estonia and MOATF are all top notch. HIE is a good album, Anorak is pretty good….
