I think of Yes, 90125...

Do you have a list? I can't come up with one.

^^ if anything, Big Generator is worse... but then, neither are great albums in my book.

No, I don't have a list.

I don't think the 90125 album cover is ugly. Maybe nothing special, but not ugly or ugliest.
The GTFO album cover is much worse IMO. LOL

Yep they even managed a bad Roger Dean cover somehow and TPATG is just typical GG throwaway cover art and just doesnt land at all. If you had said In A Glass House I might have relented a bit as that at least is a bot more abstract and interesting. That is literally the only one for me. For such an important band they really sucked at album covers. Obviously all IMO.

ELP's Trilogy is the very definition of beautiful. They were exceptionally good looking for a prog band and it made sense to cash in on that. I always enjoy looking at that cover art when I play the album, love the way the 3 heads and the shoulders melt in together. It also gets across what they were doing on the album. No one is taking the lead and it's strictly an ensemble performance. This is a maturing band that is 100% comfortable with itself. Genius cover art IMO.

Rush's "2112" cover, in my opinion, is a very shoddy, cheap, and uninspired design.

As for Steve Hillage's "Motivation Radio," for instance, the "L" cover also depicts Hillage with his Stratocaster and enigmatic lights behind him, but the photo and design are wonderful. In comparison, "Motivation Radio" seems kitsch.

Okay, to me, "2112" and "Motivation Radio" are two of the "ugliest" sleeve designs of otherwise great records, if you will.

Oh, and I would add the "Tormato" cover as well, because I consider that album to be the last Yes classic masterpiece with a disaster sleeve design.

Some Holger Czukay covers are bad in an "oh I still need a cover for the new album; I just take the first photo that I find on my desk and put some 5 minutes of design on top of it"  kind of way. He has a few good ones though (for example my avatar).

This one for example is quite a car crash.

When "Tormato" was out, I purchased it. Personally, I have never met a progressive rock lover who didn't adore "Tormato" back then. Nowadays, however, "Tormato" stands as one of the most underrated albums from the late 1970s. It is unjust to "Tormato" that people on internet forums simply reiterate the matrix that it is a weak album. Even if "Going for the One" clearly marked the beginning of the band's more commercial and approachable style, "Tormato" still has great yesssongs, and the album's overall quality is definitely excellent. Its tracks have powerful melodies and intriguing, novel concepts, and even though there is not a 15+ minute long song, "Tormato" is not a corny or sloppy record at all. No way! Although "only" 8 minutes long, the concluding "On the Silent Wings of Freedom" is certainly one of the most beautiful yessongs ever.

It's quite a different thing with that album sleeve. Not only does the Hipgnosis design not match the Yes' music, as was clearly seen in the example of the previous album, but their work used on "Tormato" is far below the level of the "Hipgnosis" group themselves. The urban legend even states that "Tor" was the originally chosen album title, and then that photograph and title, "Tormato," came from Rick Wakeman throwing a tomato at the artwork after viewing an awful and dull design.

I love Alan White's drumming on that album but the cheesy keyboard sounds and lack of any real direction and cohesion to the album overall lets it down massively plus try remembering anything memorable Steve Howe does on that album is tricky to say the least. It's not terrible though.

I'm not "reiterating" anything. That's a rude thing to say, like listeners can't figure things out on their own.
I think there are 3 good songs on the album, the opener, the close and Release Release.

As for GTFO, there are 3 good songs, too. Parallels, Awaken and Wonderous Stories. I never liked the album cover.

There's a fine line between copying and inspiration. Camel's "Mirage" sleeve design certainly falls into the latter sort.

Coca-Cola's lawsuit aside, the alternate album cover for Judas Priest's debut does, in fact, better capture the somewhat proggy spirit of the band in 1974.

Nice album cover. I mean, that's 'ugly is beautiful' aesthetic, to which, for instance, the "In the Court of the Crimson King" cover illustration belongs as well.

I like that cover, a bit creepy and it works fine for me.

Salisbury and Look At Yourself are much worse IMO.
