I was searching online using the phrase "what era of Genesis do you prefer" when I thought of this poll. I figured this would be a rather fair matchup. One is often considered to be the first proper Genesis album and their first really good one if not their first great one and the other is considered to be their last really good one and their last stab at prog.

....And forgive us our Trespass album, as we forgive them that trespass against Genesis (Matthew 6:12-14). Smile

Genesis is not a band I have listened to much for many years, but other than The Lamb, Trespass is my favourite Genesis album. Duke never made a strong impression on me (never much liked it) even when I was much bigger on Genesis than I am now.

Narrowly giving this one to Duke. Both are 4-star albums for me. My biography will have an entire chapter about my bellybutton.

Both equally. They hit different vibes.

Trespass. After Hackett left, the quality of Genesis went down significantly. Even thought Duke is probably the last Genesis album that I consider decent enough, Trespass has the great guitar playing of Anthony Phillips.

'Duke' is better in my view.

I've just never managed to get into Genesis as much as I've tried over the decades - their go my prog credentials.

The band were still amateurs when they made Trespass. Only "Stagnation" and "Dusk" have really stood the test of time.

Duke, although it's not perfect, is the far better album, if only for the "Duke's Travels/Duke's End" jam at the end.

Prefer Trespass, but Duke is very close, both albums are really good.

A common view but I don't agree. ATTWT is more enjoyable to me that the rather fractured and inconsistent W&W. I akso like Collins drumming on Duke and ATTWT a lot more than on W&W but that is beside the point I guess.
Duke is mostly a great album but suffers from having a few songs that really belonged on a Phil Collins solo album. I would have liked the album a lot more if it had been shorter. Overall it still makes 4/5 easily which puts it alongside Trespass. They are vastly different albums though. One is on the threshold of prog and one is on the threshold of the Phil Collins 80's era, but neither is quite there yet. I'll vote Duke in this instance for personal taste reasons.

Trespass, but this is a rather close call.

Duke is the best album by the 3– think the Duke suite should have been one side of the album I still enjoy it often
