As the title says the forum has been very slow loading and for posting for the past few hours. At times it has felt like we were back on dial-up internet with a squealing modem!

Agreed. Last few days even. The speed of the forum is bad enough that it will deter use for those experiencing it.

The forum has been agonisingly slow for at least the last 36 hours. M@X mentioned a few days ago in the  https://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=134492&PID=6176228#6176228" rel="nofollow - 'Blocked' thread  that he'd activated multiple bots protection from CloudFlare. It might well be something to do with that, since the forum is experiencing huge numbers of visitors just lately (2028 active users online as I'm writing this, and 4458 yesterday at 06:29, which was the highest number ever). If these users are all being monitored in real time by these new CloudFlare systems then it's probably little wonder the forum is slow.

Yeah, the forum is slower than a snail's funeral cortege today. Unhappy

Since at least yesterday it has been as slow as a turtle-sized snail being hauled by a snail-sized turtle through a morass of molasses. It is working faster for me now, albeit still slow, rather like a largely incapacitated sloth carefully making its way way down its tree for a poo as they are wont to do. The sloth made it safely to the ground and up the tree again, so no worries there.

^ Did the sloth bag its poo and place it in a designated poo disposal bin, as it's supposed to do?...Or bag it, take it back up the tree, and hang it from a branch, like many dog owners seem to do these days. Disapprove

^ Well, it's not from your end. I assume you mean the forum being slow and not the poop.

^^ It just left its weekly pile at the base of the tree as usual. I really dislike that with various dog-owners. I live on a corner lot with considerable sidewalk on two sides of the property. The municipality expects me to keep the areas bordering the sidewalk neat and tidy (I mow the grass, trim the trees and hedge...), and the sidewalks free of snow, but I have had to retrieve several bags of poop that were left hanging in the trees for days. Maybe just forgot about them. Still better than the times when people did not clean up after their dogs at all as used to happen with one lady who would walk her dog. She moved away soon after. I also have found bags of poop thrown into the bushes. The older I get the more Draconian I become, i would like to see more serious penalties for everything from littering to violent crime. Maybe I'll move to Singapore.

Just before the forum suddenly speeded up again, I had a CloudFlare 'I am not a robot' challenge on the main site - one of those where you just have to click in a box and the server then connects you. I've never had that before on PA, but get it regularly when visiting RYM directly from a link in a list of Google search results. It just happened to me that once. It may be just coincidence that it occurred at around the same time as the forum fix happened, but it does seem to me as though there is a high probability that the two things are linked somehow.

I had the same thing happen to me for the first time this morning too. I'm Only Human so I ticked the box. Smile

Yeah, that problem seems to be over M@XClap

However, posting from Firefox is still a problem (at home), as the post window remains invisible and therefore can't post at all. No problem with Edge at work (where I currently am)

I'm using Firefox version 135.0.1 (64-bit), Windows, with no problem. It may be one of your add-ons/ settings.

EDIT: I would try turning off ads-ons (be it an ad blocker, NoScript or something like it...) if aplplicable, clear your cache, maybe try a higher level of cookies allowed, and maybe try turning off the WYSIWYG post editor in the Forum Preferences section of the Member Control Panel. I'm no techie, just some things I might consider trying.

Same here, can't post from Firefox (on Linux), use Chromium for this.

Thanks for trying to help. The issue is that I'm not going to turn off things for which I have otherwise good reasons to use. That effort isn't less than using a different browser for PA.

Just some ideas. My main goal was perhaps to try to possibly help to pinpoint the issue itself. Might help M@x and its some suggestions for Hugues to try if he wants to use a certain browser but mostly I thought it might help to pinpoint the issue. It's probably not very helpful at problem-solving or identifying the issue. I like to try to figure out these kinds of things when they happen to me/ try different things. I use various browsers on a daily basis and I alternate between Apple devices and a PC laptop with Windows (plus I have my work computer, but that is solely for work). I commonly found that add-ons/ programs needed some adjusting in settings and did not need turning off. Turning off and on can be a quick way to identify if that is the issue. As for the WYSIWYG post editor, that has given me worlds of problems due to the code/script injection, and was happy that suggesting to others that they turn it off has helped quite a few. Commonly if one has a technical issue, the respondent will ask for as many details as possible, what have you tried etc., what programs are running, settings, versions, to try to find the issue. Just trying/using another browser is easy in this case for the user but does not identify what the specific problem is/ where it lies.

Well it took me several minutes to prove I was a human just now, but maybe that's just me.

I thought it was bees. The links felt a little sticky yesterday. Today it's clean like someone took a high-pressure hose to it.
