Golf Girl certainly fits the supposed Bubblegum Prog idiom |
Disagree. The song that ended up on Land of Grey and Pink was not the original intended version. The original was called "Group Girl" and was a very personal, introspective story about how Sinclair met his wife, got married, started a family, etc. There was also far less instrumentation in the original version.
The band eventually decided the lyrics were too personal and close to home, so it was subsequently re-recorded as 'Golf Girl' and the flute, piccolo and trombone parts were added at that point.
Also, there's no such thing as bubblegum prog. That is why we have Crossover Prog.

Hi,
I'm waiting for the polka dot bikini song to show up in progrock, specially with videos with partially nekkid dolls making it look like the band is better than bubblegum!

Hi,
Not sure this fits as bubblegum, but ANGE did have some smaller pieces of music that might have been thought of as songs for the radio, but in my estimation neither ANGE, FRANCIS or CHRISTIAN were ever about pop music at all ... they are both incredible singers and CHRISTIAN is massively great and an outstanding actor on stage when singing and telling his stories.
The title of the album, however suggests a more fun and not as serious album, though, so it's possible that things are a bit not as intense, but they are still, super nice and well done, and I certainly hear a lot of the ANGE feeling, not exactly anything that we would consider "prog" or "bubblegum" ... in general, the bubblegum idea is about a satirical side of the music, not quite something more artistic or serious. The title would likely mean "History of a Fool", though it might be reworded differently ...
But then, when is a FOOL not a FOOL?
You should be punished by having to listen to THE CLAMS's CLOSE TO YOU five times!
