Vangelis - Albedo 0.39. I think if the Earth wore lighter pants it would have a higher albedo.

Kitaro was one of my big loves in the 80s and I very much like that Vangelis album, but ultimately it is between two albums: Kraftwerk's The Man-Machine and Tangerine Dream's Ricochet. Kraftwerk gets my vote.
------------- Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

I haven't heard the Zanov's Lost in the Future yet. But I should probably give it a listen as I really liked his 2014-album Virtual Future.

Tangerine Dream stands out over every thing else for me. Although I haven't heard that live Stomu Yamashta album, and I'm a big fan of his music.

Edgar Froese - Pinnacles. Always liked this as a companion album to TD's Hyperborea that came out the same year. TD's is about the frozen arctic tundra while Edgar's is about the Australian outback. Both are perfect 1983 EM albums imo.

Kraftwerk, just ahead of Tangerine Dream. Honorable mentions to Albedo 0.39, Rendezvous and Pinnacles.

Does the fact that you're posting your "star-rated lists" again mean that the problem with Cloudflare embedded code is gone, and WYSIWYG is safe to use?

Sadly not. To give an album a 3-star rating now, I have to enter the following code: and I can't even edit it afterwards either. If I click on the edit button for the original post on any poll, including this one, then all I see is a blank white box.

It's been some time since I last voted in one of these, but here comes the comeback with a vote for 'Die Mensch-Maschine'!

Tough, tough list! Naturally, I own many of these.
Johannes Schmoelling's Early Beginnings is really a "selected works" type of release: early demos (those that got him the Tangerine Dream gig, though he was as good as in), unused and restored (or re-recorded) pieces. For the 1980s Tangerine Dream fan, I can't overstate how integral this release is.
1. Johannes Schmoelling – Early Beginnings 2. [TIE] Edgar Froese – Pinnacles / Mark Shreeve – Legion 3. [TIE] Vangelis – Albedo 0.39 / Tangerine Dream – Ricochet 4. Kraftwerk – The Man-Machine 5. Kitaro – Tunhuang 6. Synergy – The Jupiter Menace 7. Jean-Michel Jarre – Rendez-vous 8. Klaus Schulze – Body Love 9. Ian Boddy – The Uncertainty Principle 10. ARC – Rise

I agree, as some of the same machinery in Froese's case appears on both, though his melodies and textures are distinct to Pinnacles (which I like better, overall, in spite of Hyperborea's glorious title theme).

Schmoelling's album is excellent indeed... still not quite at the level of Man Machine > Ricochet.
------------- I make typos so you see I'm not a machine, but I may be a machine pretending to not be a machine.
