The Cuneiform Records' release in October of Mats Morgan Band's Thanks For Flying With Us, has been my major ear-opener this year. It has made me go look for their other albums. Amazon.Uk is useless. Amazon.De is useless too - telling me out of stock these other records being UK imports, but they got that badly wrong). Writing to Mats Morgan direct,  gave me a full discography and addresses to buy - but these turned out dead ends, even their former record label, UAE. So fortunately I arrived at the Ultima Thule Shop in Leicester on Saturday afternoon, wishing some new prog music but not being enthused by what was sampled me, and then remembered Mats Morgan. Alan Freeman immediately came up with Live and Trends & Other  Diseases - and to my amazement and delight, both at secondhand prices, 8-50 and 7-5 sterling respectively. Now loving these albums - listen out for Thursday's radio shows for several examples of music contained. With Jens Johnasson's preference for Stratovarius and avoiding playing  some of the music he excells and provides a unique sound, I'm starting to think Mats/Morgan are the best keyboard and drums duo in Sweden and perhaps Europe.

I am enjoying "Thanks for Flying with Us" right now. It has slowly grown to be one of my top two favourite albums of 2005 (the other one is VdGG's "Present"). It is definitely the most impressive new Scandinavian prog release I've heard for a long time. It's kind of strange that I don't have bought any Mats/Morgan albums before, I have known of their existence for about 10 years.
