Enigma is pretty good, and I don't think people should remember them only for gregorian stuff, they have made much more than that. But I'm not sure if they should be considered as prog, though. Maybe new age as it is

How bad they are!

Ludicrous synth "atmospheric" pop music to put in the competition with  JM Jarre and Vangelis

if that's the ENIGMA you mean (michael cretu
produced) then i have to say ELEVATOR MUSIC of
the lowest order, watered-down new age drivel for
people who have no opinions

progressive rock and rural tranquility don't match. true or false?

Enigma is just a band who ruined Gregorian Chants adding electronic monotonous dance patterns, they are simply boring and should be sued for runing good music.

They had a great idea and a good chance to do something innovative but didn't had the skills to work it, just created music to be played in every discoteque back in the 90's.

IMO mediocre to say the best.

I don't even mention their other works because are even of less quality, just New Age of second rate.

And don't compare them with Jarre who at least made an imaginative show and much less with Vangelis, responsible in 90% for 666 and creator of the magnifiscent Heaven and Hell.

I quite like some of the work ... Return To Innocence is one for my favourite videos ever ... and the first album is quite strong ... after a while the project became a little tired though ...

P.S. I'm moving this to Non-Prog Music

"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

  • Out of 9 posters in this thread, none except you believe it's Prog related
  • The thread has been moved to non prog related.
  • 3 beside you say they are good or at least nice
  • 3 believe it's crap
  • 1 says he's not keen on them.
  • I just say they had a good idea but weren't able to develop it giiving a mediocre result (Better than crap).

Why do you mention me, maybe because I gave a valid argument and developed it in a way you can't reply? Or maybe because I'm the only one that remembers their music was a discothec favorite during the early 90's?

Give arguments why you believe it's Prog, saying "How great can they be" or "Many Prog' bands can't hold a candle" means nothing.

Anfd you have the guts of being angry when somebody takes his time of giving arguments?

I enjoy their music a lot. I though "La Roi est Mort" was their best, but 1 and 2 were good too.

Did you know the band name changed with each of their early albums. For example the second album was actually by Enigma 2.

The non-prog section is certainly the right place for them, although I tend to agree there is a link from their music to prog. Can't see them ever beign added to the archives though!
