I have heard this band on CD, it's melodic, often harder-edged early progrock featuring some strong organ work and fiery electric guitar but I prefer other bands from The Early British Progressive Rock Movement like Julian's Treatment, Quatermass and Beggar's Opera. On the scale of 10 I would rated them with 7.0

I have a 2 on 1.Contains both their albums.

Both are great. They remind me a bit of Gravy Train,Jade Warrior and Beggar's Opera.A mix of jazz, psych, folk and rock=progressive rock.

RAW MATERIAL was a British progressive rock band from the very early 70s strongly inspired by VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR with much sax and organ. The second album "Time Is..." is their best.

SPRING is completely different from RAW MATERIAL.

"Spring" is a masterpiece of symphonic prog based on softer and less complex style. They played a romantic, melodic and atmospheric Progressive rock with 3 mellotrons.

The sound of Raw Material, from the same period and same Country, is much concentrated on organ and flute sounds.

I have heard both Raw Material albums, and wasn't blown away by either especially. They are really a 'second division' act imo, and don't really even come close to pushing into the higher echelons of the genre. They are still both good albums though. The first album is really more psychedelic, with shorter songs and a fairly weak production job. However, songs like 'Time and Illusion' and 'Days Of The Fighting Cock' are quite enjoyable early prog tracks.

I'm just finishing to listen both Raw Material albums. Just great band, super albums. Well, both are not masterpieces but close, great vocals, and enjoyble in every way. Who doesn't heared of this band must give a try, maybe is hard to find them but worth it.

I don't think their second album Time Is... is too hard to find. Raw Material, the debut album, is much rarer...

Definitely not a first division band, Raw Material, and not too original, also... but still may be found as an enjoyable one, especially on their second album (which, as Andrew said, is rather influenced by Van der Graaf Generator).
