Has anyone heard of a band called French TV? They are actually from my home town of Louisville, KY, but I can't say I've heard anything by them. They are supposedly one of the better American prog bands around.

I've got a couple of their albums and I'ver reviewed one for this site. They've got a real RIO sound, and both albums feature their interpretations of pieces by other RIO bands alongside their own compositions. I find some of their work very enjoyable, but they have a tendency to sound like their eccentricity is contrived at times. Still, if you're a fan of the less serious RIO acts I can recommend The Violence Of Amateurs and Pardon Our French.

The Violence of Amateurs is totally brilliant (including a great cover of a Samla Mammas Manna tune). They're kind of RIO, but not really that self-consciously avant-weird I think. I'd guess that plenty of fusion fans would be able to get into them pretty easily.
The followup to Violence of Amateurs, The Case Against Art, hasn't really done much for me and so I haven't gotten their latest either. But Violence is awesome.
