Here's some other excellent Tull releases in the order of my preference:

  1. Heavy Horses
  2. Benefit
  3. Songs From The Wood
  4. Living In The Past
  5. A Passion Play
  6. Stormwatch

Of course, get Thick As A Brick first.  Also, the version of "A" with the slipstream concert is also excellent.  What a band, including Eddie Jobson on keyboards, violen, and I believe Mandolin.

hahahha sorry about the arm... but I've found God does work in mysterious ways (not to mention having  GREAT taste in music).  It may be a sign that your destiny lies down the route of crotch grabbing madman flautists, wild hair, and 2nd hand overcoats.

I remember my first Tull experiance, never looked back. My advise, start with the early work, This Was, Stand Up, Benefit, this will set your foundation for the full Jethro Tull Experiance. Critical warning IMHO, stay away from A Passion Play- It IS the plague.

I've got A Passion Play, Thick As A Brick and erm, another album yet to play yet, I'm deliberately holding back the experience.  I have had Aqualung for ages, infact, I must play again.  I'm seeing JT on Thursday in Bristol, so maybe I shouldn't play anything by them at all.

Good for you man, Tull's awesome.  If I had one wish, it would be to have to relearn to like Thick as a Brick from the beginning, because before I heard that, I didn't know music that awesome existed.

Well I hope the band will be signing stuff this Thursday, so it's an opportunity to buy originals of Thick As A Brick and A Passion Play.  I shall be taking my re-mastered Aqualung with me though.

I your present situation, I can't refrain from recommending listening to the JT album "War Child", especially to the number "skating away on the thin ice of a new day". (I'm going to sky in the French Alps early April. We'll see what happens...)

Jethro Tull is the main reason I started listenig to prog music when I was 13-14. Heard ELP an KC at the same time but Tull's Stand Up and Aqualung just "sucked me in to" this type of music. Really an amasing band and a MUST for every (prog)rock fan.

Listening to Aqualung right now

As for the other recommendations I'll certainly check those out asap.

I haven't been as excited as I am now since I first started listening to prog.

For starters check out

Living in the past
Roots to branches.
Heavy Horses
Stormwatch

Skip

Passion Play
Too old to rock n roll
Minstrel in the Gallery
Under Wraps

Trust a Jethro connoisseur

After you get those under your belt go for the rest.
I'd leave the 4 Skips for the last die-hard days.

Also the Jethro Tull DVD Living With The Past. is amazing.
The latest band plays music from Jethro's whole career.
Great sound and production too.

I'd say that Minstrel is one of their best - from that era I'd be more inclined to skip War Child, which is extremely patchy.

One of the great things about Tull is the way that every album has its supporters - I'm almost convinced to give A Passion Play one more try, although it's never really grabbed me before.

There are good songs on all JT albums even the patchy ones although they may not be the best
place to start if you're just discovering JT

My 2 least favorite Tull albums: Too old to rock n Roll  and Passion Play.

We don't all have the same taste, thanks god cuz' it would really be boring and we'd nad nothing to talk about because we'd agree on everything.

But I can say something we all know:         & nbsp; Jethro Tull
