I've just got "More than meets..." and I was disappointed with it very much.Maybe, not THAT much, but it is TOO USUAL neo-prog.I've expected a much more sophisticated work from Martin Orford.
.IQ have always been more skilful than Arena or Pendragon(IMHO),they are much more complex and interesting...

...but Shadowland's "Ring of Roses" is Nolan's quintessence for me.I'd give away ALL Pendragon/Arena/other Nolan-related stuff CDs only for this one(I'd give away even other 2 Shadowland's CDs).Marvellous work, stunning music, emotional lyrics, the very neo-proggik vocals(I wonder why Clive doesn't sing anymore...he MUST continiue Shadowland's activity!Look at Jadis, they still alive!),wonderful work from Karl Groom(I wonder what happened with him in Threshold...he has cut away his fingers? )

Share your thoughts, please

I think "More than meets the eye" is great.

From Clive Nolan, I prefer "Casino"

or Strangers on a train "The labyrinth"

"Ring Of Roses" is one of the best neo-prog albums ever.

Man, that's a tough one. Do I really have to choose? Two great neo prog albums. I think I choose Ring Of Roses, a little bit more emotional depth, but it's VERY close!

Phew, two albums I really enjoy, very close call........
but Jadis wins it for me.
More Than Meets The Eye is an album I hold dear. I
do think they are both good albums tho!

No doubt Shadowland is much better. Actually any Shadowland's album is much better than any of Jadis. Jadis' first album in question is the best output by Jadis but it still does close to nothing for me.

As to Shadowland, my favourite by them is their last - "Mad As The Hatter".

And as to Nolan, apart from some very good Arena's album, I think "Labyrinth" is the best with "Casino" closely following.

More than Meets the Eye is fantastic in my opinion, mainly because of Holding Your Breath

Yeesh.  I dunno, I think they're both not the best I've heard, but Jadis might edge out Shadowland right now. "Ring of Roses" is probably the most rediculous, cheesy and simultaneously catchy Neo-Prog son I've ever heard (yes, including "In the Persuit of Excellence, Cyggie ).

Just so I have somewhere to put this thought now, I don't regard IQ very highly now. I have The Wake, Forever Live, Subterranea, The Seventh House and Dark Matter, and while I think they're OK, they can't even compare to Pendragon IMO. Not enough deviation in their songs, and I think it has a clinical feel to it, something whic I hardly ever think Neo-Prog does.
