Does anyone know about French band called Sombre Reptile and their album "Le Repli Des Ombres" released 2005 ???

As there is practically nothing on this artist's page, I would like to hear forum's members' opinion about this band and this particular album. What kind of music they play etc etc etc, as much as possible....please.

Many thanks for your help in advance!

Oh, I see......

Perhaps I'm trying to talk here about totally unknown extremely obscure prog band from France, or they are so rubbish that no one wants to waste time even to say that they are.

Oh, well, in my profession "no reply" means "negative reply", probably here it means something as well......

Wait a minute,

You got me curious there. Did you hear anything from them, a sample even?

Maybe you should ask one of the French members here (not me as I don't live there anymore, and don't know them in any case). Maybe a thourough search on the net will reveal something. I'll try looking.

Don't despair Eugene

Ok then, this is what I managed so far, since no one here seems to know them or willing to share.

The following are links to their page here on PA, their official page and to other websites with reviews on their albums. I have not copy-pasted the reviews for fear of getting PA owners with issues of copyrights so I just give the links and you can read it there.

Their page here on PA - no Bio:

Their official website (quite lame):

Reviews of their two albums:

There is more but I think that is enough

Eugene, when a band is really obscure, you have to be patient for an answer. Probably only very few members of the forum will know them. You make me curious though. What are they like? Ambient/electronic oriented (they named themselves after a Brian Eno song)?

The same applies for me with 4/3 de Trio, I think I'll try and get a copy of Ersatz somehow, it sounds like I'll love it, I love Taal and from what I've read, they're very much in the Taal vein, so, I shall try and get myself a copy.

If they are in the Taal camo then I shall get it as well.

Yes, Taal are a prog phenomenon in my opinion, a very underrated and unheard of band.

A link to 4/3 de Trio.

Thanks guys and girls for your help.

From what I've learned since yesterday about Sombre Reptile - they are trio influenced by Fripp and Eno. The album in question is their second work. All instrumental with some east european flavour. Guitar work can remind Alan Holdsworth at times. But the main negative feature of this project is that their rythm section of pop-oriented. I managed to download 6 samples - 30 seconds each - of very bad quality (48 bitrate) and it's not possible to judge from it what's the band like. Anyhow drumming is terrible thus I temporise with further investigation of this band for time being.

As to Taal and 4/3 de trio - I happened to buy Taal's first album and second album by 4/3 de trio the same day. And I've fallen in love with both of them immediately. Taal still is my top favourite band. 4/3 de trio is more easy accessible, and if Taal deviate from symphonic prog into rio/avant direction, 4/3 presents more hard edge of symphonic but still complex enough which is very much to my likings. Their "Erzats" is among my top 10 albums for last 6 months. Can't recommend it highly enough!

Hopefull I'll get first album by 4/3 de trio "Faibles" by the end of this week.

Yes, I found 4/3 de Trio purely by accident when searching for Taal, but obviously have yet to hear them, I am very keen on hearing them.  I unfortunately don't have Taal's albums officially, but if I find them, I shall get them, because both albums are amazing.  I love French quirkiness in tracks such as Mister Green and Mister Grey, as well as some of the tracks from the second album.  But their use of metal influences as well as the obvious nod to King Crimson is astounding.  I also immediately fell in love with this band.
