Boud Deum are a fairly interesting violin/guitar lead band (4 or 5 piece?), released through Cuneiform Records - which with hindsight seems to be the ideal home for the band, playing instrumental music that doesn't readily stand easy description (rock, light classical, jazzy, folkie??) - e.g. use of progressive rock would give no clues. I have Stolen Bicycle - great for the violin, when there are comparatively few violin bands around. However, having heard other albums by them I wonder if their musical ideas lend themselves to much variation - there seems to be eclectism combined with a dry style of playing and arrangement (meaning: I could do with more dynamism). BTW there is the even more obscure Ozone Quartet playing similar sort of music and are also violin-lead.
I must admit I discovered Boud Deum at the same time as I was introduced to the music of violinist Daryl Anger (sp??), both on his own albums and with those of the Turtle Island String Quartet - his interpretations of Hendrix, Robert Johnson (Crossroads by a string quartet........................no less) and Chick Corea , plus his own material are far more dynamic than Boud Deum, self-composed material.
Whilst with violinists and Cuneiform Records, just obtained Richard Leo Johnson Trio's Appliance Of Poetry album with Ricardo Ochoa on electric violin - certainly worth checking him out.
