So, I need some help. I'm 22, so listening to prog rock is like being on a constant treasure hunt. I keep falling deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole, and I can't get enough now. My favorite proggers are the ones that play with the most complexity and intensity, but can still groove. Some of the bands I already know and like are Yes (of course), Gentle Giant, Happy the Man, Yezda Urfa, ELP, and, while not prog-rock, Return to Forever, namely Romantic Warrior, (I love medieval themes) Mahavishnu Orchestra, Ponty, and McGlaughlin. Any other, perhaps less-known, bands that you can recommend would be very helpful in my quest to find all the prog I can.

As far as medeival themes i can suggest Kamelot, and although Iced earth, blind gaurdian and dragonforce are not prog they deffinately can jam.  Some other good jam bands would be Liquid Tension Experiment, The Jelly Jam, Dead Soul Tribe, OSI.  Just start trying stuff is probably the best advice i can give you try a few bands and if you don't like them try something different.  check under the sub-genres and see which bands are listed in the same categories as the ones you listed and try those first.  they will be the most alike.

Area is pretty sweet and complex and crazy too. King Crimson is too and can pull off some pretty sick jams- especially in their live albums.

Knowing your tastes I think you really should try KING CRIMSON. Try Lark's Tongues In Aspic.
