How does everyone feel about wehther this band is prog or not? I only have Ogre Tones and Gretchen Goes To Nebraska. Judging from those 2 id say they are prog related but not fully prog. ------------- If anyone knows where I can get a copy of some Flute and Voice (Indo-Prog/Raga Rock) albums please PM me! Many thanks! |

Iīm ashamed to say I still havenīt heard any of their music. Ritchie Blackmore is a big fan of Kingīs X though, so obviously I will have to check them out. |

in my opinion they have this groove rock vibe with a bit of prog in them. Some say they are the pioneers of Groove rock and this site even says that they are prog metal combined with grunge but i would say they are a bit more on the groove rock side than prog metal ------------- Carry On My Wayward Son |

Gretchen is probably thier only full fledged Art-Rock album other than that at their best they were prog-related and overall they just shouldnt be included ------------- "One had to be a Newton to notice that the moon is falling, when everyone sees that it doesn't fall. " |

I've allways heard them referred to as Progressive Metal. I'm not sure if it's accuarate or not since I've never really listened to them before. But, I thought that was the general assessment of them. -------------

This made me remember something. This is from this site's definition of prog metal: "Two bands that are commonly identified as progressive metal, King's X and Opeth, are at opposite ends of the sonic spectrum to one another. King's X are a group influenced very heavily by softer mainstream rock and grunge, whereas Opeth's growling vocals and ultra heavy guitars usually see them cited as death metal." I certainly never thought of King's X as metal in any way, progressive or otherwise. But why are they listed as some sort of prog metal exemplar when they're not even in the archives?  By the way, King's X is pretty sweet, in particular the early stuff. |

I have many of their albums, and I really enjoy them. I definitely think they belong here, under Prog Related. On a side note... Ty Tabor is an incredible guitarist, and has one of the most ridiculously awesome tones I've ever heard, IMO. ------------- Pure Brilliance:

Have all their albums up through Manic Moonlight and would have to say no. Love them and their sound. TyTabor is an awesome musician as are the other two and their vocal harmonies are outstanding. I just don't think of them as prog.
