this band practically invented the krautrock sound. put them in proto prog at least. sheesh

I agree with you, but they're not Krautrock neither Proto-Prog.
Their music is hypnotic, monotonous, beating, very lysergic in the effects, made of troubles, noises, beats, rhythms and evanescent melodies on texts whispered by the poet Stanley Warren.  The two components of the group are Dan Taylor (percussions, voice) and Simeon (electronic, banjo, voice) and took the name Silver Apples from a Yeats' poetry.
 
Psychedelic/Space-rock or Indo-Prog/Raga Rock.

Definitely not Kraut Rock - the SAs were too sophisticated for that!

BTW, the composer Morton Subotnik named his debut masterpiece (of the same year or slightly earlier than the SA's) after the same Yeat's poem

They should indeed be here - but I think they should be filed under Electronic.

Electronic would be ok - they were electronic pioneers. They might even be the first Trance band ever!
