Subject: Band website links -we need YOUR help!
Date Posted: May 11 2006 at 13:35

We are aware that a number of the links from the band pages to their official websites are in need or correcting or updating.

We need your help to do this. By doing so you will be playing a significant part in helping to make Progarchives the best and most accurate progressive music site on the internet.

We recognise that many bands do not have official websites as such. The site linked to should therefore be identified in the following order:

  • Where a band has an official site, we link to it

Otherwise, the link should point to a band related site in this order

  • The best unofficial site
  • Any record label site relating to the band
  • Any other site with significant details of the band
  • No link

Please use this thread to report dead links, errors, corrections etc. The preferred method or reporting is to give a link to the band page, and a link to the correct site. For example:

Yes - http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_BAND.asp?band_id=105 - http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_BAND.asp?band_id=105 (as shown in the URL for each band page)

Official website - http://www.yesworld.com/ - http://www.yesworld.com/

The admin team will update the band page with the correct link, and edit your post to acknowledge the correction.

Note - This thread should ONLY be used for reporting corrections. Please do not use it to discuss websites, to debate which website a link should point to, or to debate the policy detailed above. Separate threads should be used for such discussion.

Thanks for your help!!

Hmm, I'll watch out further,
but yet for all the bands that have no website, the prog-archives are the best source for infos.

Ambeon
Currently you guys are linking to the site of Astrid, the singer of this project. I actually think there's more information on Arjen Lucassen's page:

http://www.ayreon.com/projects/project.php?project_id=3 - http://www.ayreon.com/projects/project.php?project_id=3

Dali's Dilemma

The current link isn't working, but I can't find any other website that looks like it's the official one. Maybe someone else?

I looked for those bands everywhere and there is no official website, only fan pages, and artist pages in other prog sites, or album pages in record stores sites.

The only thing I found was this:

ACQUA FRAGILE has an Italian web page:

Thanks SD, I've added the link.

PC, the link we have is already to http://www.progarchives.com/forum/ - www.pendragon.mu   which presumably is the official one. (There's only room for one)

Cheers Avestin, I've added that link too.

I couldn't find the website for the band Nexus here, so I looked for it myself:

http://www.nexusarea.com.ar/ - http://www.nexusarea.com.ar/

And I take it you guys ask permission for putting samples of bands here on PA, and they've got enough if you ask me Wink

And maybe you can use the next one for Dali's Dilemma (which link here on PA isn't working, as said before):

[1.]Also, for Latte e Miele web site i think http://www.italianprog.com/a_lattemiele.htm is the most appropriate web site considering that progarchive's official web site there is not exist in Yahoo Directory.

P.S There is a problem with the HTML code in progarchive's Latte e Miele site. --> http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_BAND.asp?band_id=202

[2.]http://www.italianprog.com/a_locandadellefate.htm for Locanda delle fate because progarchive's suggestion doesnt work

[3.]Also, official web site of LABŸRINTH is :
http://www.labyrinthmusic.it/

[4.] Mekong Delta has official website, and it is:
http://www.nightmarepatrol.net/mekongdelta/news.php

[5.] Shaa Khan. Progarchive's link for this band shows that message "404: File does not exist". So here is official page (in german, but there is a google translation tool )
http://www.shaakhan.de

3. Hamster Theater

5. il balleto di Bronzo

http://www.ballettodibronzo.too.it/(progarchives has one japanish web site about a il balleto di bronzo's live in japan)

6. BLOQUE

You have to remove the 'official site' link because there is not any web site for that band

A link to the homepage of Echo City, a truely avantgardistic band:  http://www.echocity.co.uk/ - http://www.echocity.co.uk/
They are not in the archives yet, but they definitely should be. One of the members is Guy Evans of Van der Graaf Generator, by the way.

The official site of COLLAGE: http://www.collage.art.pl/ - http://www.collage.art.pl/ . The current link in the archives directs you to a site about satellites, cable TV, etc. The same thing happens if you click the link to SATELLITE's site - you end redirected to the same site as in the case of COLLAGE. But I haven't find an appropriate site yet.

I don't think there is a particular discographic/biographic site for Peter Baumann.

would connollyco serve as acceptable for a compromise?

as for Cosmic Jokers, they are listed, by all made albums and by all possible references, down ashra.com and down klaus-schulze.com.

of course, it's about the collaboration Gottsching and Schulze made over there, but there's nothing else.

by making a selective 1974 session of music accomplishments, the Cosmic Jokers are deficitary at having the great brand of a website. connection seem always to be made either from somewhere else, from directly, but precarous.

During the actual addition of bios, we also added at least 20 website links, some didn't existed and others simply didn't worked, but a lot of bands never had one.

Will keep searching, but this are some I remember.

Bands with no website

ABBHAMA (Indonesia): Don't expect it Wink they are an Indonesian band thatreleased one cassette in 1978 or 1979 called Alam Raya, it costed me a week to find the lineup and most of the members are known by nicks, it was added God knows why by a guy called Progbear because they are unknown even in their country and the album didn't had song list or lineup.
ABEDUL (Spain): No Web Page, rare info.
CHRONOS MUNDI (Brazil) Sorry for Guigo but most Brazilian bands have terrible Web Sites if they even have some.
JOSE CID (Portugal): The only thing I found from him was a photo of José Cid totally naked and covering his ba!!s with his gold record, sent it to Tony and told me this is not Porn Archives LOL
CINEMA SHOW (Brazil): Idem Chronos Mundi
CIRCLE (Germany) The only Circle with web site (and a good one) is the Finland band.
CIRCUS (Switzerland) None of the Circus (UK or Switzerland) have a website.
CIRKUS (UK): Searched a lot, nothing but brieve info in different sites including GEPR.

Still we probably find some more.

This is something we have to do sometimes, when I added Petrus Castrus (An excellent Symphonic band from Portugal), there was no official page or similar because the Portuguese Dictatorship of the 70's placed Petrus Castrus in the Politically Incorrect list, so there's very little info.

After searching hours I found a site devouted to Portuguese bands with a whole page about them, so I had to use it as it was the only availlable website.

I hope some bands had something similar, because when you are checking rare bands, any info is better than none and believe us (HT, Bob and Me) we have some very rare bands.

We even have two without any album ever relesased. LOL

And the official site of SKALDOWIE (but only in Polish): http://www.skaldowie.pl/ - http://www.skaldowie.pl/ .

BTW, can you do me a favour? If so then please fix my surname under the bio: it's Ślązak and not Ślaząk. Futhermore, A. Zieliński plays keyboards on "Harmonia Świata" (no Hammond or piano in there - my mistake). Oh, and replace with ż in the discography listed under the bio. Ok, that's all, I think.

I agree.

Due to the fact we're dealing with bands of the 60's, 70's and 80's when there was no internet or web sites, only the surviving bands and the most famous have an offivcial web site, in most cases the musicians are already retired or wotking in other activities and some of the lesser known bands don't have a fanbase big enough to justify an official website, much less when there are bands that released a single album.

Maybe a small addition would work:

OFFICIAL WEBSITE OR LINK

No, no. I just did not follow up on that thread and did not have time to do so today.

I did the changes but it seems that when I do so, the Polish accents are not well taken and appear as something else.
I think I might need to install Polish fonts (or any fonts with those accents).
Anyone from the Errors team have them, perhaps?

Bob, Iván

'Official Website Or Link'

The word 'official' qualifies both 'website' and 'link', thus it appears the link would also be 'official'.

'Official Website Or Other Link'

Would get around the above problem, is explicit but is perhaps a bit cumbersome.

'Website'

Attractively simple but undefined, less clear and not entirely accurate [the Be Bop Deluxe link went to a single page on a site devoted to many other things]

On balance - I vote for the middle option 'Official Website Or Other Link'

Where exactly in the bio is there a problem?

SKALDOWIE came into existence in the summer of 1965. Officially, the band made their debut
on a contest called II Krakowska Giełda Piosenki in October of the same year. They won that year's contest as well as the next two. From this time on a series of successes began for the band. They won some major contests in Poland (in Opole, Gdansk),and participated in two films.
In 1967 they released their first, self-titled LP. In the same year they appeared on TV, and finally
their lineup was established as follows: Andrzej Zielinski ( org, pno, voc ), his younger brother
Jacek Zielinski ( voc, tp, viol ), Jan Budziaszek ( dr ), Jerzy Tarsinski ( g ), and Konrad
Ratynski ( bg, voc ). The next year the band began with participating in another film, and in
March they recorded their second album, “Wszystko mi mówi, e mnie ktos pokochał”. Then
they left for their first tour outside Poland, in the USSR. >p> (this should be removed too)
In 1969 they released “Cała jestes w skowronkach”. Almost all the songs from this album became
hits. In August and September of that same year SKALDOWIE toured in the USA and Canada. They came back with Hammond organs, and in January 1970 they began recording a very good album, "Od wschodu do zachodu słonca", their first album with a proggy feel, or so I believe. Three months later they recorded their next abum, “Ty”. In 1971 and 1972 the band toured the UK and both parts of Germany (they were also in Munich during the 20th Summer Olympic Games), then recorded their next two albums: mainstream, successful "Wszystkim zakochanym" and their first truly prog album, worshipped by Polish prog fans,“Krywan, Krywan”. It contains a nearly 18 minutes long suite, “Krywaniu, Krywaniu”, in which they blended all their current inspirations: from Polish highlander folk music to forms taken from classical music and even citations from the works of such composers as Bach,Mussorgski, Borodin and Rossini.

In 1976 SKALDOWIE recorded another pair of albums, "Szanujmy wspomnienia" and "Stworzenia
swiata czesc druga", the latter in the vein of “Krywan, Krywan” – also containing an even
longer suite. Unfortunately, after that one Skaldowie didn’t record any more prog albums.
The next albums from the band were "Rezerwat miłosci" (1979) and "Droga ludzi" (1980). The latter was recorded on the occasion of the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow; that’s
why they went on a tour of the USSR. After coming back to Poland the band started recording a
double LP, "Zostaw to młodszym", which would never be released (some of the songs from
this album would be released later in 1996 on a compilation CD entitled “Podró magiczna” ).

At the end of the year Skaldowie went to tour in the USA. When in Poland martial law
was enforced in December, Andrzej Zielinski decided to stay in the States, while the other members of the band succesively come back to Poland. The band disbanded soon afterwards.

In 1987 Jacek Zielinski resurrected the band, though without Andrzej Zielinski and Jan Budziaszek,
and in 1989 they released “Nie domykajmy drzwi”. However, in 2004 they toured with their classic lineup again, and in May 2006 they also released a new album, “Harmonia swiata”.
