For me the CD Out Of Myself by Polish progrock sensation Riverside is superior to everything in this poll. When I first listened to this album I was as thrilled as like the first time when I listened to 'non-symphonic rock dinosaurs' bands like Rush, Triana, Los Jaivas, Anekdoten and Solaris !

I had to pick Opeth's Damnation: a nice "relief" from all their heavy stuff. I always preferred their softer side. Absolution comes in a close second.

Gives me a headache. Out of Damnation , Out of myself and Testimony i voted the latter. Neal Morse solo is almost as good as Spocks beard (with him) . That's quite a relief, i was afraid he would leave the progressive scene to play gospel in some church. Not so he handles his conversion to christianity quite well.
I suspect that i would like Tangent very much as half of TFK is playing on it. Haven't got around to listening to it yet.

Although I haven't heard all of those albums, I'll have to say that De-Loused was my favorite progressive release of 2003. Their sound was fresh, new, and impressive. The definition of progressive, really. Damnation and Train of Thought were fairly good albums, and I suspect I'll get around to listening to Jethro Tull's Christmas Album at some point.

Neal Morse's material is great, though not AS impressive as his Spock's Beard era. I voted for "the Power to Believe" though. It is such an incredible album. Hackett's "To watch the storm" is also a great album (slightly unexpected, at least for me.) "Deloused in the Comatorium" is also an honorable mention for me, though I think "Frances the Mute" took their music to the next level.

Was thinking about doing a 2003 poll myself, and then I remembered this poll.
Of these choices, Taal's Skymind is my favourite of what I know. I haven't heard Fragments of Light in whole yet, but since I'm on a Kotebel kick, I expect that would be my favourite.
The albums I had decided to include for a poll were rather different on the whole however (mostly just based on samples of music I've heard and liked from this site, the bands' official websites, their record labels...)
These were ones I was preparing to include in a poll, but since you already did one for 2003, I'll just put it here.
Kotebel - Fragments of Light La Maschera di Sera - Il Grande Labrinto Syrinx - Reification Karda Estra - Constellations Nil - Quarante Jours... Volapukk - Where is Tamashii? Kruzenshtern & Parohod - The Craft of the Primitive Klezmer Thinking Plague - A History of Madness Stereokimono - Prismosfera Espiritu - Frontera Magicas Talisma - Corpus Discus - Tot Licht Nemo - Presages Explosions in the Sky - The Earth is not...
Plus these two you included... Guy Manning - The View From Outside Taal - Skymind
Little Atlas - Surface Serene might be amongst my favourites were it not for the vocals.
One big album you didn't include, and neither did I, is Anekdoten's Gravity.

Since I'm acquainted with only two albums from the list, I have to choose from The Power to Believe (King Crimson) and The Christmas Album (Jethro Tull), which is almost impossible. Both are excellent. I'll vote for Jethro Tull mostly due to the little number of calls for them.

Belated response as I hadn't been keeping up with the threads I'd responded to (and then took some time off from the board). First, I haven't heard all of either album (I've listened to free and legal samples and really liked what I heard -- I hope to buy Quarante soon). From what I've heard I definitely prefer Quarante, but not knowing both albums well enough, I wouldn't recommend it unless you really liked Novo. Many people consider Novo to be the better album.
Might want to sample Quarante song fragments off their website here: http://nilweb.free.fr/Nil-ec.html - http://nilweb.free.fr/Nil-ec.html

I only know 2 albums from this list. The power to believe and De loosed and from these two I prefer KC . If I'm not wrong there are 2 more from that year no one mentioned : Trespass - In haze of time and Proto-kaw - Early recordings from Kansas and my vote goes to Proto-kaw (not only cause it was made in 72. I realy think that staff is amazing). In this poll I did not vote.

"Damnation", for being so unique in Opeth's catalogue. It's weird in that it makes me want to go to sleep; you'd think this would be a bad thing but somehow it's a great feeling at the time...
"Closure" is my favourite non-growling Opeth track. Or is it "Windowpane"? Or "In My Time of Need"? Hmm...
