Suppers Ready for me by a slender margin, though I prefer Pawn Hearts to Foxtrot.

You know what to do by now...

Hard to say I'll have to listen to A Plague a few more times to give an informed vote. Both excellent tracks though just hard to compareSmile.

Supper's Ready, although I like them both a lot.  A Plague... has some moments I really don't care for.  I prefer Man-Erg to it

I'll go against the flow and vote for APOLK (that's a nice, new acronym!Wink). As much as it pains me to admit it, I've never been able to really get into "Supper's Ready". VDGG's track, so dark and gothic, makes me think of Poe and other such writers.

Every time I listen to "A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers" I enjoy it.
Every time I listen to "Supper's Ready" it hurts me.

I love them both, but I think A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers is slightly better.  A lot more insane, but that was what VDGG were about.

Supper's Ready for sure, and this from an absolute VDGG worshipper.

I think VDGG piece is more interesting musically, even if slightly more disturbing, but that's Peter Hammill as usual...

I always found "Supper's Ready" not well glued togheter as a whole, more like "a series of pieces that the musicians struggle a fair bit to segue into the next one" than a real song by itself...

Supper's Ready for micky...

love each lyrically.... the 2nd half of AFoLHK musically  is a bloody mess to me.  If they would have wrapped it up after the Presence of the Night section it could  have been (IMO of course)... right there with  prog's GREATEST recordings.  As it is... it's meerly one of the greats. Then again shortening it might ruin it...who knows.  Anyway I think Supper's Ready is stronger musically but that's just me.

Lyrically I'll tale APOLHK but I think Supper's Ready has a bit of a advantage with it's emotive climatic ending, but overall I can't chose. Both are amazing.

Both excellent songs, but Supper's ready (10/10) gets my vote over the Plague (9/10).

The 'bloody mess' part to you is what makes it the greatest ever prog epic, to me. Are you sure you've heard it enough times? I love both, but think Supper's Ready is a bit of a mess. Ha-ha.

Supper's Ready, though Plague is great.

What's with all these people who haven't heard Supper's Ready? I mean, I can see someone not having heard APoLK before... its probably not as popular... but Supper's Ready? It's mentioned CONSTANTLY! A Prog rock classic! A MUST HEAR! First damn Prog song I ever heard and it's still one of the best!

A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers is simply stunning, especially the latter half in my opinion. When I listen to Supper's Ready I hear a big, messy collage of potentially good ideas with the ridiculous talents of Peter Gabriel "singing" over top of them. i'm very sorry for that, but I really don't like Gabriel at all and he is the reason I do not like Genesis--believe me I've tried numerous times, I just can't stand the bloke (with all due respect). so...

A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers 10/10 (album 10/10)
Supper's Ready 3/10 (album 3.5/10)

I forgot to admit that I do enjoy Selling England by the Pound on occasion but I really can't see the Genesis light on any other albums (I own Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, SEBTP, and The Lamb Lies Down... if you think I deserve to give another album a shot I'm perfectly willing to I'm--I'm not trying to dislike them I just do...so...any suggestions?)

It might be hard if you cant get past Peter's vocals... Have you listened to those albums through a few times or not so much?

There really are a lot of excellent songs on all of those, if you can get past Gabriel's vocals and you could always try post-gabriel... A Trick of the Tail and Wind & Wuthering are very good albums...

Really though... what's not to like about Gabriel's singing? It's great!
