The new album should be done already. The web site said it should be done in Fall...of 2005. The last update for the album was July 26th 2005. The tracklist is given and everything. I don't know what's going on with it. Derek even said he was confident that it would be out in Spring of 2006, which has come and passed.

I heard that Tony MacAlpine will not be part of it, which is a shame.  I wonder which guitar virtuoso will fill his slot.

Imagine if it was Petrucci!  Maybe they could get Portnoy on drums, LaBrie to add some vocals on a few songs, and...oh wait.

I'd rather have Virgil Donati on drums for something like Planet X.  Petrucci would be cool on guitar though.  He and Sherinian had some good chemistry on Falling Into Infinity and a Change of Seasons.

Allan Holdsworth will be recording the guitar tracks, I love Holdsworth but Macalpine was made to play in Planet X, his style fit Planet X like a glove.

and Portnoy doesn't hold a candle to Donati.

Holdsworth has done half the guitar tracks apparently. The rest will be done by Brett Garsed, and i think one other guitarst. Can't remember who now though.

Petrucci will suit Planet X I reckon, different with Portnoy, i think Donati is better for Planet X...

I am pumped for this. I love their style . The whole fusion metal thing is just awesome. The things I love about SX and DT mixed seamlessly with the stuff I love about Mahavishnu, Return to Forever, and Weather Report. But the key word there is SEAMLESSLY. it sounds like it belongs together, and I love it.

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.
