Sadly here in my coumtry... there is not so many laws that regulates wildlife consuption... not just whales but people here eat almost anything:
From dogs ( yes, stray dogs ) to a day old chick... name it..
I hate people who tie their dogs and leave them woithout food nor drink...
Lots of my countrymen do that....
*sigh*

When is the last time a whale did anything for you?

Whales suckeight=

I just have one question about whales: who cares? All I ever hear are people pissing and moaning about saving the whales. Why save the whales? Screw them, what have they done for me? How would you like to go to the beach one day and read a sign that says "Sorry, all out of water." Not likely? Think again. Here's a little fact about whales that not many people know:

Whales are drinking all our water and eating our sailors.

When they're not busy ravaging the high seas, they're getting beached and rotting to death out of spite so nobody can enjoy the beach.

Then there are the people who say whales are smart. If whales are so smart, then how come they still haven't learned to breathe under water like everything else that lives in the ocean? They've only had 40-million years to do it and they still don't have their sh*t together. And now researchers are saying that they've found gay whales. Duh.

Is it too much to ask for a whale to save me for a change? When is the last time you procrastinated by putting up a stupid web page instead of studying and a whale saved your ass during the test? Never. In fact, when is the last time a whale did anything other than some stupid trick like jumping out of the water? Ooh, the whale can jump out of the water. Big deal. Try building an oil rig, then I'll be impressed asshole.

Trust Ansen to ruin things Ouch

But if he did vote, then he voted for Yes, which is fine by me!

I'd like to hear Blowie's input, as he's Norwegian and I know a lot of Whaling goes on there.

I think there should be a total ban on whaling.

The Japanese would ignore it anyway though.

(No offense to Japanese members, but the country of Japan pays no attention to whaling restrictions)

I trhink those little nations in the North that historically hunt whales to eat and build houses should be allowed though. They do it all with hand tools and it's an ancient tradition there.

It seems everyone who has voted is in favour of the ban.  I'd like to hear from those who have a different point of view.

I won't change my mind, obviously, but I was just curious as to the reasons why someone would say No to a ban?

Yes, it should be banned. Also disturbing is the shark fin soup where they catch a shark, slice it's fins and throw it back into the water. It is banned, but lots of people still do it. Unhappy

I think whales are a persecuted marine species much deserving the protection of a whale ban.  You all have seen Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home right?

The only one I've seen all the way through was The Wrath of Khan. The first one was just plain boring, but Khan was pretty good. Approve So actually no, I haven't seen The Voyage Home.

No.  It should be strictly monitored and regulated though.  For certain cultures (and Native American religions) whale hunting is essential.

Maybe I should have outlined my question better.  I am mainly referring to those countries that don't need whale meet for any real reason.  Obviously certain cultures will require whales for particular reasons and that's not quite so bad, because they'll be in the minority.

Oh, come on. All you people that want to ban it: Of couse it should be regulated just like with any other wild species. Can't believe I'm the only one who voted for it yet. Should we only eat animals that we think are ugly and not charming, and leave the cute ones? We don't need pork meat for any real reason. We eat it because we like the meat. The meat industry is much worse than whalehunting. Think with your head. Pigs are also supposed to be intelligent.

What we should, is start treating all our animals like they are living creatures that can feel pain and get 'depressed' when locked inside cages etc...

The difference is though, is that the Whale is more of an endangered species.  I agree with your point with the regulation though (hence why I put the option in, in the first place).

You wouldn't want to see Sperm Whales extinct, would you?

In Australia over 500,000 whales have been killed since its commercial beginning in 1866. Cry

Of course not. That's why I voted for (better) regulation, which is the only reasonable option in the poll. If you're not a populistic politician looking for votes based on sentimental, emotional and irrational feelings.

BTW: A lot of whales are not among the endagered species. What sounds like the best way of living/dying: Living your life in the sea/wilderness or in a crowded cage/meat farm, till you get killed?  Start caring for the animals that has no freedom and no life.

Whoever voted no is a complete moron.

It is impossible to hunt them sustainably, they reproduce far too slowly, and there are simply far too few of them. Many species were nearly extinct in the 70's, and now only a few have recovered (the  the Minke is the only one to have fully recovered which was whaled extensively) but most are not close to original numbers. More money can be made out of whale-watching than any use of whaling. Small-scale hunting by eskimos is all that should be allowed.

Not the most endangered, but still endangered, and they are all fragile populations.

And a northern right whale, which used to be very common, was whaled VERY extensibely is now one of the rarest animals. Only a small population of 300 or so in the NW Atlantic exists now.
