Anyone heard of them? Try listening to Canticlu A Cucuveaualiei on the streamed http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_BAND.asp?band_id=1586 - mp3s :
Sounds like they succeeded where Jethro Tull failed, successfully making folk-rock.

PHoENIX is an awesome band, but it's a shame they are not well-known in Europe at least. I have all their albums (quite many as a matter of fact, they are an old band, starting in early 60s). They made even rock operas and concept albums in the 70s, had problems with the communist censorship and even the communist security (sort of a secret service). There are a lot to be said. They released some materials in Germany, maybe you can get that, I don't know. If you can find any Phoenix album, get it, their music is simply AMAZING.

As a Romanian, I'm a disgrace, for I don't like them. Embarrassed

Don't know these Phoenix guys but they seem more popular (better known) than Sfinx (these Romanians like mythological animalsWink).

I still have a vinyl from Sfinx (from 79) left at my house by my sister in law as well as one by another group called Progressiv TM (not included in the Archives, though).

Have not listened to those two albums in over 12 years. Maybe I should

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword
