The album definitely is, as are all of the Chicago albums up until (and including) IV (Live at Carnegie Hall).

I would like to propose that individual albums that showcase extreme progressive merit be admitted to the archive without the artists entire cataloge also being admitted...and i think that this album is a perfect example of one of the albums that should be admitted ------------- If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice. |

Don't think VII is as proggy? I can allow for V and VI being non-prog. |

I don't know. Any band who's producers have included David Foster and the dude from Rascal Flatts, sure doesn't sound prog to me. Yes, I know their early stuff was more artsy; however, you let them in, then you have to consider Earth, Wind & Fire and Blood, Sweat & Tears.

sorry e-dub but i completely disagree...its rather unfair to make any comparrison between chicago's proggyness and that of Earth Wind & Fire
*as a side note...Chicago XXX is their best effort in 15 - 20 years...nice album with top notch production (even though it may be brutally pop and not prog at all...i still like it) ------------- If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice. |

sounds reasonable, but then we have the problem "how to determine which albums are proggy and which aren't...". you can assign this heavy task to our beloved team but I see they are already overloaded!!!
 Besides, in this case every Beatles album up to Help (including or excluding... it depends) and every Genesis album after Duke (excluding... Duke is prog, like it or not!) except compilations and several live albums should have been moved out! (well, not so horrible after all!!
 )I believe it would be logical to place Chicago in prog-related, although the first 3 (most probably 4 as well, I didn't listen...) albums are clearly Jazz-rock... and a hell of it!
btw, it wouldn't kill me to see the entire discography of Chicago here, either. They make quite good music, even after V... ------------- Listen to Turkish psych/prog; you won't regret: Baris Manco,Erkin Koray,Cem Karaca,Mogollar,3 Hürel,Selda,Edip Akbayram,Fikret Kizilok,Ersen (and Dadaslar) (but stick with the '70's, and 'early 80's!) |
