Seeing that many definitely non-prog bands make it onto this site (Anathema and Muse for example), I find it rather odd that the excellent The Tea Party is not yet listed here.  Their music is intelligent and they tried different approaches in each of their albums.  I believe they are at least worthy of the "Art Rock" etiquette.  Anyone agrees ?

Cheers and peace to all !

Wrong section. But anyways, the band sounds interesting. Any recommendations?

Their second album "The Edges of Twilight' has a Led Zep approach (not rip-off) and features great songwriting and guitar playing.  Probably the best introduction to this band.

Third album 'Transmission' is their heaviest and also the one featuring the most electronic stuff.  Probably my favorite.  Their most experimental.

Thanks, I will try to find them. If it sounds Zep it's bound to be good! Smile

I've got Transmission... it's a good album. Not incredible, but good. They can be a tad derivative at times, IMO.

The Tea Party really hooked me with their first album. Excellent combination of "classic rock" and conscience musicianship. Edges of Twilight made me a fan. Loved that album, and I believed in The Tea Party. Transmission lost me. Dissapointing and uninteresting, I wrote off the "Party". Never have returned.

The Tea Party are (were) a great band. Their first three albums, Splendor Solis, The Edges of Twilight and Transmission should at least fit the Art-Rock category, their last three albums are perhaps a bit more poppy, though still progressive in many ways. I would highly recommend them to any open-minded progressive rock fan... especially The Edges of Twilight.

I have just done a search for this.To me after listening to Edges of Twilight for the first time last night,I thought the Tea Party would have to be included on this site.At the least as prog related.Dont know about the newer material but this album is simply outstanding.Got interested after seeing Jeff Martin live a couple of weekends ago performing his solo and Tea Party material. He used all his world instruments and the Toronto Tabla orchestra. What a brilliant musician and singer.During the gig JM stated his reasons for leaving the band as being due to his displeasure at the increasing commercial (popish) nature of the more recent albums, and his desire to return to his main love of world music sounds. This was one of the most enjoyable gigs I've been to for years with a gorgeous accoustic sound mix. Thanks for the introduction to this Rob!

I just checked out a few samples, and there is enough there to warrant further investigation. I like what I've heard so far.

The middle eastern influence is there,Led Zeppelin influence is there plus Jeff Martins big Jim Morrison like voice.I cant wait to go thru the back catalogue.Hope you like them too.Thumbs Up
Thinking about it more,I think The Tea Party or Jeff Martin's solo work would fit into the Indo/Raga prog category rather than Art rock.
