First Nemo, now Hamadryad... wow this is great.

Loved your previous two albums.

Any new album in sight, perhaps? Any shows in the US (preferably east coast...)?

Wish the band the best in getting it made and produced, but we here in the states will probably have to wait to buy in dollars from our good old internet shops.  Hope to see the Prelude a la Ruin repressing made available here also.

Oh I understa,d that buying cds in europe foryou  is a bit expensive, but of course our retailers in the USA will have Si II and Prelude à la ruine (I guess they already have Prelude now). Greg Walker (Syn-phonic) already ordered Si II, and I think he will get them in january.

I bought SI part 1 from Kinesis and was hoping they would get Prelude in also.   Haven't bought from greg walker before.   Is Laser's Edge not interested in carrying Nemo?

Ken Golden said to me one day :"I don't know how I can sell your albums in the usa, because of the french singing"
However, if many people ask him Nemo cds, he'll maybe do a try ! ;)

We are presently composing the third album (We have 3 or 4 songs that are by now only works in progress and a lot of ideas)

We are also working on a live CD and a live DVD from our performance in France (At Crescendo)

For shows in the US, I recently met the guys from the band Echolyn and we kept contact. If everything works like I'd like to work, we would will probably do a double bill with Echolyn somewhere in the states (Probably something like 3-4 dates) But I can't confirm anything. Both of our bands are working on a new materiel so we'll see if that happens in 2007! (Our album should be out in fall 2007 if everything goes well)

If you want us in the states, ask for us! We would like to play in the states but it's not an easy task for people from Montreal (we don't have the contacts and we don't know where actually people that would love to see us live exactly!)

Create a demand of Hamadryad somewhere in the states and we will know where to go :P

Interesting.  The guy carries tons of stuff and a lot of it is obscure.  I love his outfit, but this seems a little shortsighted when you consider what a great band this is.  I might just drop him a line.  With the buzz on PA, maybe he will reconsider.

I said hello from you to Sebastien :)
He  said Hamadryad is a great band, so i'm going to go to your web page and listen to samples ! Thank you for the preorder !

@ Johnobvious : other retailers don't care about the language and sell our cds quite easily, so I guess he'll change his mind one day :)

Nemo, he carries two Nil cd's so you might try him again.  I have Novo Sub Sole but don't think I got it from him, so this may be a new development   He practically drools over Quarante.  So maybe he has gotten on the French bandwagon.  Good Luck.  Either way, I will get Prelude and Si pt 2.

He should have French album.
It's ridiculous to disregard albums that have French sung on them.
I love Nil's two latest albums (bought them at Syn-Phonic, though).
Anyway, which ever retailer sales your albums, I will get them there.

"Prélude à la ruine" and "Si Partie I" are simply amazing in my opinion! can't wait to listen to the sequel "Si Partie II"

Thanks guys !

@ Inferno : I just listened to sound samples on your pages, and what I heard sounds good to my ears :) The production seems to be very clear and powerful, and musicians seem to be really good. Your singer just sings like Gabriel, doesn't he ? I'm gonna get your latest album :) What is the better way ?

Thanks!

Actually, the way we recorded the vocals made in sort that his voice sounds like Gabriel. He has a similar tone of voice naturaly so that doesn't help either but there is no intention of being of genesis wannabe band like all those clone around there!!!

The better way to get our album? Musea record is our distribution in France so there should be a couple of retailer with our album but I heard that they kind of sell them ridicously at a high price so you may want to check on Amazon or our website.

Posted By: Nemo
Date Posted: September 27 2006 at 11:21
@ Inferno : I found your latest at 17.9 euros (musea) and 17.5 euros (amazon) :)

About Laser'sedge, here is the new reply from Ken :

Problems...limited interest in French vocal music.  We stock Manigance and sell small quantities.  Price - if I recall you quoted me a very high price.  Finally how would I pay you?

I understand this point of view, and fortunately we got 3 other USA retailers.

JP-e-mailed Ken and he replied back with his side of the story and recounted your latest conversation.  I understand you are both trying to make money on your endeavors and it is hard to say who is right and who is wrong-probably neither of you.  He obviously can't carry everything from everybody.  I'll look for your stuff elsewhere.  Good Luck with the new album

I got no anger at all against Ken or anybody. He does his work, and his conditions are not ok for us so we won't work together. No problem with it. However, retailers have to understand two things : bands like us can't sell their records at low prices as bigger labels, and dollar is lower than Euro... We still got the freedom to refuse selling our products under their cost, and that's a good thing ! Other US retailers are ok with that :)
Thanks

I can't believe I got dragged into this thread. Somehow I'm getting painted as a villian here and I find myself in a position where, for some reason, I need to explain what should be a private business matter in a public forum. OK here goes!

Last year I picked up a buzz on Nemo. I contacted JP and he graciously sent me a number of promos to check out. I felt given the heavy edge of the music it was trying to appeal to both a prog rock and prog metal audience. Based on my history selling the French prog metal band Manigance (a superb band in the Vanden Plas mold but with French vocals) I felt there was a limited audience. Further JP quoted me a very high price (remember the dollar is weak). I decided to pass.

Forward to yesterday...I was contacted again by JP, apparently motivated by this thread and comments by John Mattern. I outlined my concerns to JP. I agreed to stock the CDs if we could come to a meeting of the minds on price and terms. I told him how much I wanted to pay based on the price I felt comfortable retailing the CDs at. JP wasn't thrilled but he agreed. His firm terms were the CDs had to be prepaid for. I don't prepay. I've been in business for 19 years with terms from bands, labels and distributors all over the world. I offered to pay upon receipt of goods - not uncommon.   JP said this was unacceptable. I wasn't insulted and I don't think he was either - we simply didn't have a meeting of the minds. No bad guys here - the deal just didn't work out for us. I wish JP and Nemo all the best. I'm sure there are many places that the CD can be sourced from - Greg Walker, Kinesis, etc. If JP changes his mind I'll be happy to stock Nemo.

Regards,
Ken Golden

And of course there are no problems for me, the most important thing is people to find our cds somewhere.

Ken-if you come back and read this, I certainly hope you don't feel that anyone has said anything bad about you on this thread.   I don't think that is the case.  I simply inquired of JP initially why you didn't carry them and it kind of ballooned to this stage.  As you are aware, people who listen to prog can be quite passionate and sometimes don't understand that at the end of the day, the music is all great and good, but the bills need to be paid.  You have made a business decision and I respect that and don't want anyone to look unfavorably on your business.  If you think that is the case, my apologies.

You will forgive me if I wait for your album to reach the US before buying it (either Big Balloon, Greg Walker or Laser's Edge will be fine).
Anyway, I find Nemo to e an excllent band with all four albums of about the same quality with obvious improvements as you release more, but I love all of them.
I keep recommending you to people I konw and in this forum as well, as do others here, so you will find supporters here.

Erik, just read your review.  Is your four solid or do you think you need more time with this one?  Your review makes it sound like this is pretty challenging stuff.  Is it as good as Partie I?

Not that it really matters.  I'm getting it either way.

Hi guys !

Thanks to Erik for the quick review ! I think it's a good review, even if I truely think you have to listen many times to the album to really understand what we wanted to do. It took 9 months to write it, and I hope people will still discover new things in it in 9 months. :)
But I also think this album has an easy side, and you can alson listen to it without analysing. Well I hope so !
Thanks again !

I agree with your words "truely think you have to listen many times to the album to really understand what we wanted to do" , that's why I ended my review with "If you are up to adventurous prog in the true meaning of the word ‘progressive’, this new Nemo album will delight you!"

I hope many progheads will discover your
captivating and often exciting music Clap

Just ordered Partie II from Lasers edge.  The wait has been pretty brutal but they finally got it up on the website, www.lasercd.com.  I was getting so antsy that I went to Big Balloon, which I have never used and was going to order it from them, but they are out of stock.  Don't know if they sold out or haven't gotten them in yet.  Also ordered Prelude from laser and ordered Presages from Kinesis yesterday.  Throw in a Nil album that I also ordered and I'm gonna have four albums that I don't understand a lick what is being said but I don't care.  Come on UPS.  What can brown do for me?  Deliver my music FAST!

JP, I got all three yesterday and was able to listen to each one time through.  I was a bit worried that you might be having shipping problems or the web sites were just not putting them up fast enough.  Just anxious.  But I know it must be frustrating for you trying to get the CD's into people's hands.  I'm sure the business side of things for you can be trying at times.

On first listen, I am extremely happy but I know I will need more time to truly appreciate.  I have wanted Ruin for a long time and it is great.  I wasn't sure about buying Presages but am very happy I did.  And the new one seems to be as good as Partie I.

I'm normally not a guy to listen to new albums over and over and that keeps me from doing a ton of reviews because I often don't feel I know albums well enough to offer solid opinions.  I'm going to make an effort on the new one for sure so I can get another review up on PA within a week or two.

Thanks for your hard work and continued inspiration.

Got Si II a few days ago but only managed to listen to it once and it sounded very good, but I need 7-8 listens till I absorb a whole album so that I can really apprecaite it.
The 4 other albums grew on me quite fast and I love them a lot a highly recommend them to anybody in search for modern, fresh and original prog. I'll keep mentioning Nemo in the threads in this forum (and beyond).
Keep up your great musical work Clap

Due to my recent "Francophile" mood, I gave "Prelude a la Ruine" a first listen yesterday and I'm seriously impressed. It's never too late to discover something so good, but I could have done it earlier, since I knew about them for some time.
Strictly from a musical point of view, there is a lot of variety in what they do. It's a pleasure to listen to capable musicans juggling elegantly with diverse influences, and taking you on a ride full of surprising twists and turns. It's mainly progressive metal to my ears, but nothing ever seems forced or overwhelming, as they clearly master the art of playing like a cohesive ensemble, tastefully alternating tension and release. And the most beautiful part for me is that the music is highly melodic and emotionally charged at all times. There is a pronounced romantic edge to the story, as well as to the way the lyrics are written and sung - sensitive and passionate, depending on the mood of the music. Obviously, one might argue that French lyrics are limiting their audience, but I would say this is part of what makes them special and particularly charming.
I plan to get the other albums soon and in the meantime I pre-ordered the T-shirt that will be available from June onwards. I'm enthusiastic about these people's music and it would be really nice to see them live some time soon. Thumbs%20Up

I've got a grip to listen to this new album. It's still an early experience, but I liked the way and the style of it. I think all good signs leed to a concept beautiful rock and a shining star impulse. Clap

Fantastic album. My wife's and my favourite. They manage to get in their music a special touch that while complex keeps you hooked for its beauty. Les nouveaux Mondes is our second favourites and Si I is great as well.
I still to grasp Si II.

Should have gotten Les Nouveaux while I had a chance but now my source is sold out and this album is out of print.  Have Presages and it is awesome as well.

Hi John,
You can find it here (assuming it's not out of stock and that it is not the one you meant):
http://synphonic.8m.com/country/france.htm - http://synphonic.8m.com/country/france.htm  16$

There's probably other places too, but that's the only one of those I use regularly.

Hello :)

thanks to all of you for discovering the band.
I just wanted to say that "les nouveaux mondes", our first album, will probably be reissued within one year, in a remastered version.
