Anyone like her music?
I have only heard a few songs and was wondering where I should start?
She sounds quite a bit like Kate Bush in some parts.
I like the way she really seems to get into it!
 She just sounds so uninhibited..Here are 2 songs, for those who don´t know who she is..

She's great, awesome voice and nice piano playing. I have about 3 of her CD's. Plus her version of Smells like Teen Spirit kicks Nirvana's ass |

Well, I adore her voice and her piano playing.
On her very first album, my new temporary signature, she plays some pop stuff in the vein of Pat Benatar and Kate Bush circa 'the red shoes', and her piano trademark signature is already there. I think it's a nice album, progsters would not like it due to its strong "pop" side.
On her further albums, she evolved towards something more intricate, but still with a strong sense of melody. The Kate Bush influence is even more obvious and I recommend 'little earthquakes' and 'under the pink'. Little Earthquakes and the recent Scarlets Walk are in my all-time
album top 10. These are also by far the best albums she made, followed
by Under the pink.

| I love her music, but the last two albums have began to sound a little repetitive to me. I would reccommend Little Earthquakes and Under the Pink. Boys For Pele is also a good choice, darker and less catchy, but interesting. |

Not bad -- Amos is doubtlessly quite talented & original.
I just have the one older CD, but hardly ever play it. I'm not sure why, but I just don't seem to "connect" to TA's writing. I find it depressing, I guess. ------------- "And, has thou slain the Jabberwock? Come to my arms, my beamish boy! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!' He chortled in his joy. |

you arent familiar with Tori Amos' work are you? For your information: Tori Amos (born Myra Ellen Amos on August 22, 1963) is an American pianist and singer-songwriter. She is married to English sound engineer Mark Hawley. Together they have one daughter, Natashya "Tash" Lórien Hawley, born on September 5, 2000. Amos was at the forefront of a number of female singer-songwriters in the early 1990s and is noteworthy as one of the few modern pop music stars to use a piano as her primary instrument. She is known for lyrically opaque but emotionally intense songs that tackle a wide range of subjects, including sexuality, religion, patriarchy and personal tragedy. Its just that I have listened to many female -singer songwriters, however, Lisa Gerrard, DCD material, soundtarck material, solo material, and collaborations with hans Zimmer and Pieter Bourke are stunning. She has a completely unique sound engenders profound emotion within me. Listen to Duality or anything DCD after Spleen and Ideal. I admire Lisa Gerrad more bcasue she was/is willing to take a risk with her music unlike other female artists both past and present. from Goth-Darkwave to World Music with subtle goth chamber influences is quite a contrast.
In fact, regarding female vocalists, right now I am listening to Ashes Are Burning.

Not to mention, she was hot, look at the pic in my sig. Thatsa caption from their video "Fronteir." off their debut album. The picture in my signature captures emotion effortlessly. Look at her eyesbrowes, she is viewing something in front of her, yet assuming authority over what it is; its almost as if she has already indentified the flaw of what is before yet she her facial countenance expresses pity for the person's effort, its an admirable effort but is still wrong, its okay. All of this is conveyed in her composed self.

I was referring to your accusation that Amos was "vapid".
Returning to Gerrard,I am only really familiar with her collaboration with Hans Zimmer on the stunning Galdiator soundtrack though I am vaguely aware that my wife has one of her albums.. |

| Amos is a brilliant pianist/songwriter and, before she began recording, was raped by a man who held a gun to her. This may explain the "depressing" nature of some of her songs. I tend to give her room with these issues. |

I saw a live special this WE with her and she kicked ass. What a group she has too! Not suggesting anything, but she's quite proggy at times. Does her studio stuff resemble her live performances? ------------- let's just stay above the moral melee prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword |

actually the Bad Plus, a great modern jazz fusion trio, does an intense and hilariuos 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' on their These Are the Vistas CD (as well as Blondies 'Heart of Glass', completely tearing it to pieces )... the band specializes in the deconstruction of popular songs, and also does great originals. Very recommended.
oh and for Tori Amos fans-- look for her B-sides and alternates CD, a real winner |
