I was listening to a Vanden Plas stream here on ProgArchives earlier today as it was listed in the Prog Metal band list. It was so good, I HAD to get some! The only album available on iTunes Music Store, though, was their latest offering, Christ O.

But how does this compare with their other albums? Which should I buy next?

Christ .0      IS      the album of the year.

Beyond Daylight is as great as Christ .0

Vanden Plas discography it's all great, even their first album and the live one.

Good for you for liking Vanden Plas! Awesome German prog-metal band.

Beyond Daylight is undoubtedly their best. A melodic masterpiece, yet at the same time, uncompromisingly heavy! You'll love it.

I like them all about evenly but if I had to rank them:
1.Beyond Daylight
2.The God Thing
3.Christ.0
4.Colour Temple
5.Far Off Grace
6.Accult
(I don't have the live album)

I only know The God Thing and Christ0 and I know them well. Extremely delicious stuff - I can't get enough of them. I think Christ0 is superior (songwriting, production, playing skill), with more mature and complex arrangements, but the other one is also outstanding, especially considering it was released in '97, when the prog metal scene wasn't exactly fully developed. Great music, occasionaly great lyrics, and tasteful playing all over the place. Hopefully I'll listen to the other albums one of these days - I'm sure my expectations won't be let down.

I only have Christ 0 and Beyond Daylight of their studio albums, and C0 is the slightly better of the two, but their both pretty damn good.

Spirit Of Live is a decent live album, but would have been so much better if you could here the bass player Torsten Reichert. This is a travasty as he is an awsome bass player, definitely the stand out musician in the band IMO.

I sometimes feel a bit like a fish out of water on this forum. I like Pink Floyd and a few of the other lighter prog outfits, but it's Prog Metal that really floats my boat! But this thread gives me hope that there are other metalhead proggers here too. Maybe it's time for a Prog Metal sub-forum!
