Lets hope other comercial bands do the same, not making their music progressive, but at least making it more inteligent.

It is strange though. I never thought they would take that direction.

Linkin Park have said that they are taking influence from seminal prog-rock artists on their new album.

Ummm... I wish they wouldn't.Unhappy They should just keep doing what they do best, creating hackneyed, mediocre, hamfisted pablum.

Great,  I hope that the mainstream artists don't start including what they would consider "prog" into their crappy albums..

It's interesting, however for me,   because long before I discovered prog, I listened to linkin park.   I only like one song really,  however, after finding prog I gave up my evil ways.

Linkin Park could be a good band. They have the ability, I believe, just not the mindset. Their use of electronics and minor soundscapes is really good, I believe, but they probably will never overcome their rap/alt-rock base.

I believe this quote ´proves how Prog they can get:

Quote Speaking to Bilboard, Sinoba said that they have around 100 song ideas which they are going to whittle down to around 18 for the final cut of the album.

Incredible,. real Prog artists took an average of one year to release a a good and well developed album, Gabriel takes between 2 to 8 years.

And this mediocre posers say they have 100 Prog songs for one album???????? DeadDeadDeadDeadDead

Simply unbbelievable.

I think it's nothing more than a commercial thing. Modern Prog acts such as Tool and The Mars Volta have done very well in recent years, so Linkin Park probably thought they could earn some more money by saying they're Prog inspired. Smells like bullsh*t to me.

I don't understand why you would want that.

I, for one, am quite happy to hear that Linkin Park may take their music in a "proggier" direction. Proves that prog is becoming mainstream again. People should rejoice, for crying out loud.

I'll certainly check the album out, even if I won't buy it.

It's the next (not so) logically progressive step...  LP already was two-thirds ELP -- albeit in acronym only, of course.

I'm glad to know of it... more people might be inclined to hear the bands that Linkin Park cite as influential to their new album.

Quote Linkin Park have said that they are taking influence from seminal prog-rock artists on their new album.

The band have been holed up in the studio with Rick Rubin who has immersed them in Pink Floyd, King Crimson and even Emerson, Lake & Palmer records.

Mike Shinoda from the band even joked that they have had a Moog synthesiser in the studio from the offset

+++sound of head being beaten repeatedly on desk+++

Quote Speaking to Bilboard, Sinoba... tells fans to expect something different from their previous two long-players, "it's time to step outside the box and try something new."

Like recording an album which does not rely on the hackneyed cliches they've been churning out for the last 10 years or so, perhaps?

Just as well this does not happen the other way around - imagine it; David Gilmour in skater pants & a baseball cap, Gentle Giant on the cover of "Keranng!" magazine, a moshpit at a Mostly Autumn gig, Phil Collins in the charts... ah!

They ARE professionals.

There are plenty of excellent non-prog musicians who write sh*tty music because they think it's what will make them popular. I think it's a step in the right direction for a band to try and write some good music for a change.

And everyone saying it will automatically fail need to realize that their singer is actually quite good, their bassist isn't bad, and their guitarist very well might improve if he's listening to prog music and practicing.

It's like chastising a bully who's trying to be non-violent, saying, "oh, you can't do it because you're a bully". It's the same thing to chastise a band who plays sh*tty music from trying to incorporate progressive influences.

I DEMAND the inclusion of LP in Prog-Archives at least in the related category!AngryAngry After they release their album, even I will say, "DT who??"

I've done some research and it seems they're going to have a 24.15 minute song in their album with guest stars Robert Fripp and Roger Waters, plus Michael Jackson who will take care of these two stars' kids while they're away touring with THE PARK.

f**k, well, what's next? I think I heard rumors of Snoop Doggy Dog teaming up with Beyonce and Daddy Yankee to release a new concept album "Yo' Prog grillz'n'bitches Vol II - Cut' ya' time in half" .... And then, of course, Timberlake will follow.

But who knows LP will end up becoming the new Genesis of the current generation....

In 20 years people will be talking about how LP'd drummer drove the band to pop music while Sinoba went to have a successful solo career.

If by 'prog' they meant 'emo', then they're doing a great job.  It's unfathomably worse than anything else they've produced.

I find this funny because Shinoda's solo project "Fort Minor" was pretty successful (from what I heard), their drummer is the most talented member.

When thinking back to the bands I listened to before I got into prog, LP stood out as one that could've been an amazing progressive band if, you know, they weren't so into nu-metal or rap.
