Hi!
I'm new to prog and at the moment I'm searching for bands that play a slow, balladsy style with romantic melodies. Is there something like that, that you could recommend me?

Fireships - Peter Hammill

Atom Heart Mother - Pink Floyd (To a certain extent, like "Summer '68, "Fat Old Sun")

Everyone is Everybody Else - Barclay James Harvest

Octoberon - Barclay James Harvest

XII - Barclay James Harvest

Time Honoured Ghost - Barclay James Harvest (Imagine the Eagles' "Take it to the Limit" played ten different ways.  I dont which album came out first, but some of the songs, especially "Sweet Jesus." "Sweet Jesus" and "Take it To Limit" sounds SO similar its shocking.

Wind & Wuthering - Genesis ("One for the Vine" has the shortest, most beautiful  intro, it sets the mood perfectly, especially if you looking at the album art while listeing to the song.  Its unworldly. "One for the Vine" is my favorite track on the album.    "Blood on the Rooftops" is another Hackett-romantic guitar tune, similar to "Horizons").

Overall, delve into BJH.

BJH:
Fantastic Melodies
Slow Mid-tempo Ballads
Uplifting Subject Matter
Poignant Lyrics

It's got to be slow
Taking love the only way
It's got to just flow
Making love and taking time to let it grow

Definitely:

Pendragon

Almost everything by them has a romantic and very melodic feeling. Nice music when you're alone with girls. Wink

I agree with the Harmonium recommendation

Some other recommendations:

Holderlin - Holderlin's Traum.   Beautiful prog folk from Germany. Lovely female vocals.

Sigur Ros - ( ).   Very melancholic post-rock. Lovely piano.

Guitarist Stephen Caudel might be of interest.Tends to get pigeon holed as 'New Age' but his best album Earth In Turquoise is very prog in style and has that melodic/romantic style that I guess you are into.

Perhaps King Crimsons first four albums?  As well as Yes' first two albums.  Theres also bands like Jade Warrior and early Caravan.  You should probably check out the Canterbury scene.

I'd say Camel had their fair share of romantic songs.

I also agree with the Harmonium recommendations.

almost the entire Gabriel era is cast in a wistful romantic vein, with varying motifs of melancholy

I'd recommend Days of Future Passed by the Moody Blues, Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson, and, er, uh...Heavy Horses. By Jethro Tull. Yeah.
