anyone here also a fan of the almighty British minimal indie-psych band Loop? Active bet 1986-1990 before they split. They were always seen as a kind of dark cousin to Spacemen 3. Check out their 3 great albums (Heaven's End, Fade Out and A Gilded Eternity - the best) and a brilliant EP (Collision)......lovely repetitive mantric riff-based stuff. After they split 2 members formed Main (more dark ambient/experimental) while the others kept up the rock component with Hair & Skin Trading Co. anyone else? |

I guess its just you and I superprog. My personal favourite is "A Gilded Eternity", That album is so relentless and scary yet deliciously psychedelic. Kind of what I'd expect psychedelic rock from another dimension to sound like. Certainly it was not created in this dimension, There is nothing else like it. I love how Robert changed the "tone" of his guitar for this album. Instead of the freaked-out superfuzz tone he had on "Heaven's End" and "Fade Out",(I do love the freaked-out superfuzz tone) He went for a more "angular" tone on Gilded. ------------- DEATH TO FALSE PROG! |

ahh well hehe Loop werent quite as popular/cool as MBV or Jesus & Mary Chain (nor Spacemen 3 for that matter) but anyone with an interest in psych or Kraut shld do well to have a listen to them.
Totally agree w yr description of A Gilded Eternity...really is their masterwork. The recording and production are a big step up from the previous albums. One of my all time Top 50 albums!!!

Good call superprog, I also believe fans of Krautrock would find Loop appealing, Plus Loop does a cover of Can's "Mother Sky" on Fade Out. So the influence is definitely there. Back in the early 90's I was in a band that did a cover of "Collision". While my band was taking a break from rehearsal I was walking by one of the other rehearsal rooms and heard through the door a famliliar song the band inside the room was playing. It finally dawned on me that they were also playing a Loop song. After waiting for the song to finish I knocked on their door and introduced myself, And let them know that I was also a Loop fan. We struck up a friendship just from that. One of the guitarist from that band had turned me onto Monster Magnet, Another one of my favorite bands. I guess the only reason I'm bringing this up is That was the last time I ever met anyone who even knew who Loop were. And now some 15 years later I stumbled into this thread.  ------------- DEATH TO FALSE PROG! |

Well as a psych rock specialist I've been around the net searching for new bands to discover and one of the name I've heard a lot was Loop. I've been very curious to check some of their material out. I already heard Main and I found them enjoyable although I still haven't listened to them that much. I'll look for A Gilded Eternity as soon as possible.  -------------

And now some 15 years later I stumbled into this thread. man thats great heheh i always wanted to try out some Loop covers but yes most indie-rock ppl i know havent really heard them either!! glad that myself and the Dude have gotten some of you guys interested....but yes their back catalogue is so damn out of print esp the first 2 albums and the EPs.....but A Gilded Eternity (which was on Beggars Banquet/Situation Two) shld still be obtainable. The rest is ebay......... SOMEONE PLEASE START A REISSUE PROGRAMME FOR LOOP!!!! |

I have "Heaven's end" and "A guilded eternity" (both on vinyl). Been listening to it since around the time "Heaven's end" was released. Definitely good stuff. |

Loop! Yes I remember them well. I really liked Fade Out at the time. I saw them live and they were better than on record IMO, more energy. Collision was a great single too. ------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy! |
