I would like to suggest this outstanding contemporary musician to be added to ProgArchives.
His musical output can be divided into three parallel parts:
Robin Taylor (solo) - 10 albums
Taylor's Universe - 6 albums
Taylor's Free Universe - 5 albums
Taylor's Universe is my favourite part of it and represents sophisticated jazz-rock/fusion bordering RIO/avant with quite a few symphonic leanings - I have all 6 albums and can't get enough of them. All of them are quite different from each other. Karsten Vogel of Secret Oyster's fame is briliant on saxes there.
Taylor's Free Universe is more avantgarde - free jazz stuff - it's a bit difficult for me to absorb this type of music in full, but still I enjoy most parts of it. This part would be more to the likings of avant/noise/extreme/free-jazz/free form music lovers
Robin Taylor's solo - mixing various styles of music and bears various influences from Krautrock to ambient, from improvisational to symphonic structures, also with electronic parts and jazzy touches all over.
Bearing in mind the variety of music by Robin Taylor, it is very difficult to suggest exact category he would fit into here, but taking into the account overall eclecticism of it, I'd think it's closer to ZART department than to anything else, but I'd leave this particular question to the specialist to decide on.
Here are some excerpts from press about Robin Taylor, which you can find on his home page http://www.progressor.net/robin-taylor/ - http://www.progressor.net/robin-taylor/
Press: "As for Robin Taylor and his creation as a whole, in my honest opinion, he is undoubtedly one of the most inspired , inventive, and innovative composers of the Progressive Rock movement. If you consider yourself a real connoisseur of progressive music, not to mention ProGfessor, you shouldn`t miss the opportunity to enrich your collection with such wonderful albums as those by Taylor`s Universe, Robin Taylor and Taylor`s Free Universe." -- Vitaly Menshikov, ProgressoR
"Hats off to the likes of Robin Taylor, who stubbornly follow their musical goals, without paying attention to passing musical trends." -- Uffe Christensen, Jyllands-Posten
"The albums by Robin Taylor demonstrate without a doubt that he's managed to develop a highly personal composional voice, and that his music deserves wider acknowledgment and recognition." -- Francois Couture, All-Music Guide
So all in all - Robin Taylor, being an outstanding and unique modern progressive musician and composer, certainly deserves to be included in data base of PA .
