I wrote a review for an Enchant album looong ago... But I didn't realize it then... Today I did: Enchant... Prog-Metal????ConfusedConfusedConfused What has metal have todo with the San Francisco band? Kansas is art-rock, Cryptic Vision is art rock, Magellan is art-rock, Explorer's Club is in art-rock... all of them heavier than Enchant, but with at least some similarities (the Kansas inspiration mostly)...but Enchant is Prog-Metal??Confused I think they should be moved....

I vote the last option cause frankly I have never heard of the band and I like adding useless comments to polls I know nothing about! Tongue

Enchant were moved to Prog Metal from Art Rock with the agreement of the Prog-Metal team. If they want to have them moved back to AR, they can ask me or other ART members. Otherwise, they will stay where they are.

I miss the option "Yes. Prog-related" or "No. Prog-related" here

Seriously, they are not metal to me, but I still do not like the band.
On the other hand LTE are nothing to do with metal to me, and I like the band a lot!

Enchant sound to me like lower quality mixture of Rush with Kansas.

No, I don´t think they are prog metal at all.
The problem is that their record company calls them Progressive/Rock/Metal.
Great band BTW!!

Definitely not prog metal.  They have their harder moments, but they never really dabbled in metal territory.  I have more than a few albums by Enchant and, in my humble opinion, art rock is their rightful place.  You just have to know their main influences (Kansas, Rush, Saga) to know they fit in art rock.

That guitar sound is not metal.  Isn't the guitar sound how you define if a band is metal or not?

A big NO!! They have some heavy riffs, but that's not enough to categorise tham as Prog Metal. They're a kind of Art Rock, with Neo proggish sound, IMO. And they should be in Art Rock, definitely.

BTW, what are Magellan doing in Art Rock?? They're modern Symphonic Prog!! Anyone agrees?

I don't know.... I think they have metal elements, symphonic elements.... Impending Ascencion was symph-ish, but the two latest ones (Impossible F and SFAM) are more on the metal side.... I don't know....

Explorer's Club, on the other hand, is metal+sympho....

I don't knowConfused

But please, check this poll, admin team... I suggest Enchant to be sent to Art Rock, and The T to be sent to The Prog Hall of Fame...Big%20smile

Later Enchant is prog-metal to me, Im not too familiar with their earlier stuff.

Magellan was in the Prog-metal category in the beginning here, but was later moved to Art Rock. Im not sure which catergory they really belong in though, all their albums have strong elements of Neo-Prog, Symph and Prog-Metal at the same time.

Enchant fall in between art rock and prog metal . If I was looking for an art rock band and I read about Enchant being art rock on this site I`d probably think that Enchant get just a bit too heavy to be Art rock, because they probably are.  If I was looking for a prog metal band here I`d be thinking Enchant are not typical prog metal, and perhaps not heavy enough !

I believe there is a time when  a combined style is needed   Enchant are "art  prog metal"
something ?   many prog   bands especially from the Magna Carta label fall into this category.

Like Masque stated,Enchant are one of those bands that are right on that line where you have trouble figuring out which single genre they should be placed in.In my opinion they are a little too heavy for Art Rock, and I have no problem with them being in prog metal.

Magellan is another band that combine quite a few different styles/sounds into their music and it makes them hard to pin down. They definitely aren't prog metal, and I am the one who suggested they be moved.

Who cares what they're called. A great band that isn't the most complex, I think they fall between later era Rush and "Parallels" era Fates Warning.

Art rock for me. I'm cool with the Prog Metal classification here though. I consider them an excellent "intro band" for folks who are new to the genre of prog metal. Art Rock or Prog Metal, it doesn't matter, I love their music anyways.

*getting a bit hot under the collar*

Didn't any of you read my earlier post? I found Enchant in Art-Rock, knowing they're often classified as PM, so asked the PMT's opinion. There is a dedicated thread in the Collabs section, where the members of the PMT expressed their opinion in favour of a move of the band to Prog-Metal.

So, please, think twice before questioning the Specialist Teams' judgment. Personally, I have no problems in having them in Art Rock - provided the other team members agree with me, since there are four of us (plus an unofficial member, James aka Geck0). I'd be grateful, though, if some of you stopped considering us like halfwits just because you don't agree with a band's placement.

*end of rant*

I've noticed that about a lot of modern Prog. Bands like Sylvan etc can  easily fit in a number of categories.

Enchant are a bit "between the chairs" (as we say in Germany) ... their early albums are clearly non-metal, but Juggling, Blink of an Eye and especially Tug of War are quite heavy. Most other websites (and record stores, for that matter) put them in the metal category, and so did we. Personally I don't mind which category they're in as long as I can listen to them!Wink

People will always doubt the rightfulness of status quo, and this is very progressiveSmile.
Frankly, I could not see anyone here considering any of you to be halfwits - there is rather calm and polite exchange of opinions taking place here (so far).

With all due respect to the great job you're doing, there is nothing better than questionning the Specialist Teams's judgements LOL.

Half of the people here mentionned that it does not really matter under which category this band is filed, and I personally agree with it, although I often doubt the correctness of categorisations here .

Oh no, you're not halfwits because of that... now if you continue with the shots at The Dream.....WinkBig%20smile

As Eugene said, questioning the status quo is very progressive... And I started this poll because I find no metal in Enchant, not even in Tug Of War, a very good album but metallic for like 10 seconds (the intro to the first song, that's it).... Anyway, this poll has been one of the most unbalanced I've seen... Does that tell us everything? Big%20smile

I think 'Wounded' is the only metal-prog album they released. Their previous album 'Blueprint of the world' was produced and also features Steven Rothery. It is more in the 'neo-prog' vein, as are their latest albums. The follow-up to 'Wounded', 'Break'  ('time lost' is a compilation of leftover tracks from the 'blueprint' and 'wounded' sessions) features some "grunge" ingredients.

Unfortunately, I can't post the link to the thread I opened last November before Enchant were moved to Prog-Metal. The decision was not taken lightly, as there were two teams involved (AR and PM), and the thread was open for a couple of weeks at least before the move was made.

However, as this seems to be a matter of life and death, and you're even asking for the Admin Team's intervention on it, and seen as I couldn't care less where Enchant are, I'll post the link to this thread in the Collabs zone, and see what comes out of it.

There's nothing to be sorry about. You asked us to intervene - I did as soon as I saw your post. Everyone of us wants PA to be accurate, even if we are not talking about hard sciences here. If the members of the PMT agree with moving them once again, we will do so, and make you all very happy.

Juggling, the only album I own, is not Prog Metal to my ears. Far from it, but, I guess that is also in the ear of the beholder.

As a huge fan of Enchant (I own all their albums), I would never really box them into a prog metal label. I think they take elements of prog metal, neo-prog, symphonic prog, and pop/rock and meld them all into their own unique sound. Enchant is really one of the most underrated new prog bands of the last 10 years, I love all of their stuff!

If I had to "classify" them with one of the sites labels, I would have to say art rock would be the most accurate.

I just wonder why I bothered to post a query about Enchant in the Collabs General section, when there are people who seem to have missed it completely. Probably it's perfectly useless to do so, seen as people will first ignore such things, then complain when a band is moved with the agreement of TWO genre teams.

As I don't know the band in question, I asked for the PMT's expertise - which, according to what I've seen here so far, is non-existent, since they all told me that Enchant were better defined as Prog-Metal. That said, I'm not going to move them anywhere before the PMT tells me they're OK with that. Genre teams exist for that purpose - the Admin team have other fish to fry than move bands every time someone decides their collocation is not the right one.

I'd like to inform all of you that Enchant have been moved back to Art Rock. However, I'll be grateful to The T or any other of the participants to this thread if they could write a new bio for the band - in fact, the first sentence of the existing bio states clearly that they are Symphonic Prog Metal, and this was the main reason why I asked the PMT's opinion before moving them. I'd rather not have bands in AR whose bio says they belong to another subgenre.

just noticed this bruhaha.. this morning...

a reminder to all.. there are processes that go on behind the scenes...    many people spend a great deal of time doing this for no other reason than out of a regard for the site. We all respect them.. and respect (joking aside) the work of our different genre teams.

I'll speak plainly.. that the Iron Maiden fracus last fall left the impression with some  that you all simply don't understand the processes involoved here.  When it was explained... it was ignored.  Reading some of the comments in the collab section... some members of the PMT thought it was prog metal  some thought they could be in PM.  That is why they were there....  a word of warning...  tread lightly when you start telling people that you think you know better than they do... you may win a battle or two... but you'll always be a foot soldier...  never a leader LOL  Prog Metal like prog.. is about perception...  for better or for worst.. it is their determination.. not mine, or yours which is what determines it.  My two cents...  this could have been handled better.. and quietly.. within the confines of the genre groups.  Maybe I'm still sore about the whole Iron Maiden disaster, being one of the principal players in that, but You all have your right to an opinion... but grandstanding is akin to rubbing people's noses in it.. and people don't forget that.LOL

off my soap box.. there is enough tension involved between some  genre groups without having more hahahhaha
