Should John Wesley become a Perminent member of PT? He sings backup and plays guitar in In Absentia in places, he has toured with them through the In Absentia and Deadwing tours, he was present in the Porcupine Tree Arriving Somewhere Live DVD, and has worked with Steven Wilson on many solo projects of his own.
What do you think?

This guys been around for a long time, too. I have a Marillion FRC release from Copenhagen on the Brave tour and they give him a big thank you as the opening act during the speaking moments between "The Great Escape" and "Made Again". Hogarth said something about how he had to leave to 'go back to the States'. Does he live in the US? I think Ian Mosley lived in Florida at the time. E -------------

John Wesley also toured with Fish on his Raingods with Zippos tour. He is from Florida according to the booklet for the Sashimi Live album. -------------

saw him support the marillos on two tours and bought his debut album “under the red & white sky“, which was produced by mark kelly. good singer/songwriter-stuff with some proggy traits, maybe a bit bland at times. furthermore, he was steve rothery's guitar tech for ages (read the whole story in jon collins' fine “separated out“ biography) and i remember seeing him perform “estonia“ on stage with marillion (on acoustic guitar) on their “this strange engine tour“. i heard somwhere that PT have already asked him a few times if he would join permanently. but the geographics would probably prevent this (he: florida, they: UK) and as a writer i think he is too involved in his solo stuff. but he is also shown on some promo photos (german magazine ROCK HARD have already had two consecutive PT-live reviews with a photo of him instead of steven wilson) and there are photos about where he is also part of public signing sessions on PT-US-tours. can anyone verify? ------------- progressive rock and rural tranquility don't match. true or false? |

not too sure about this. as i stated before, his writing is very much in the singer/songwriter mould and thus very different to steven wilson, whom i doubt will push for a second writer in PORCUPINE TREE. but – if it happens – it will certainly be an asset and yet another different slant to their music. PT are known to make u-turns and change & progress over rel. short periods of time and if this suits their chosen track it would certainly be a good idea. after all, steven wilson sort of reserves most of his singer/songwriter-ambitions for BLACKFIELD these days. great new album, btw. ------------- progressive rock and rural tranquility don't match. true or false? |

After watching the Arriving Somewhere DVD, I think he is necessary and I hope he gets a chance offering. His vocals mix very well with Steven's and his presence fits the band as well. -------------

Just like creating ones own fantasy line ups, it is futile to suggest or insist that someone work with someone else when their personalities (and their circumstances) are not known to us. The chemistry between these guys is there live (which is obviously why he's hired for live shows) but would it be there during the creative process? He is hired to help the band realise their sound live. In the studio during the writing his presence may not be needed (and may even be in the way). Having said that, I understand that Wesley does contribute backing vox to the new album and I would definitely say that this is fair and makes sense as he has been, and hopefully will continue to do so live. Ultimately who, other than those involved know the situation? |

I think they've got it together themselves. He has his own stuff to do, and he helps them out on tour. I tihnk they have a nice thing worked out. adn it would just be weird if they messed that up.
He knows and appreciates his place, adn it looks like everyone is fine with the arrangment.
I vote no ------------- I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t. -Stone Beard |

I think John can do more then that Singer/songwriter style. IDK, I like his touch on the guitar, and I'm not too fond of Wilson's Solo's. Wilson thinks about it too much so it has a lack of flow that I think John'd be able to do easy. |

eh well I think Steve is doing a great job at it so far and although John is great with them live, I'm not 100% sure that would be the best. It definitely wouldn't be bad for the band at all, I just kinda like how they are now. Can't wait for the new album/show I'm going to! |
