Since my top choice (Mercyful Fate) was not on the list, I had to go with Exodus.

There is only one Metallica!

But I also love Pantera, and I kind of like Megadeth as well.

Kreator, hands down.

And I actually would rather listen to As I Lay Dying than any Metallica album after Ride The Lightning. Not that I would actually listen to either in the first place.

Metalcore is terrible and the first person who votes for Trivium gets a kick in the face.

Very tough choice especially since I've seen at least 60% of this list live at least once.....but in the end I'd have to go with good old trusty Slayer!

I wouldn't say that Thrash is some kind of superior genre compared to metalcore. Killswitch Engage and Between The Buried And Me are amongst the most enjoyable metalcore bands whose creativity and overall pleasant experience matches some of those thrash bands.

Confused Killswitch Engage? Perhaps between the buried and me, but not killswitch engage. Anyway, as a rule Metalcore sucks, and Trivium are the worst band that ever touched an instrument.

No arguing there. Honestly, I haven't given them enough attention, because the second I hear their vocalist, I shut off whatever vehicle for the transmission of information they happen to pop up on. Embarrassed

I like Voivod for their progressive stuff, their thrash years were kind of lame. So I have to vote for Slayer.

Others not listed I like:

Strapping Young Lad
Fear Factory

as a rule NO genre completely sucks...unless you really wish to be that close-minded. BTBAM are among the best in metal IN GENERAL (in my opinion) and especially in metalcore. There are other interesting subjects in this genre...but I was never into much thrash or metal...I can handle some Metallica.

If you EVER find yourself doubting BTBAM then you need to hear their NEWEST--Colors. It's very progressive and hardly metalcore in the sense that it could be coupled with bands like As I Lay Dying...it much more akin with SILL LIFE than anything major metalcore has offered. KSE isn't awful either, though they can't hold a candle up to BTBAM.

...Sorry about my spiel.

The best by far of the bands listed. I guess you could call them a brand of tech metal, but I say they're completely prog.

Rust In Piece is my favourite thrash metal album for me. In 1990 when the Thrash scene was becoming over crowded, it was awesome to hear something from that year that stands out so much, and also was is the most technical and challenging effort by Megadeth, and the most interesting and most replayable record of theirs IMO.
