My goodness, what a great poll. I voted Mike Giles because he is my
favorite drummer and I don't think he gets enough love around here.
Shostakovich was tempting though.

I like Giles' drumming, but it's hard really appriciate how good he is because the drum sound on the debut is SH*TTY.

I know only some of this musicians, but i really cannot think of anyone better (at the time) than John Mclaughlin, what a god-dammit virtuoso this man is, and playing with Miles Davis isn´t for everyone!

Lemmy!! Of course. I admire him very much.... John Lennon should have been there, though.

John McLaughlin’s musical legacy far surpasses any one on the list. A far superior musician.

Patrick Moraz. His work with Refuugee, Mainhorse and Yes is fantastic.

Lemmy. Because of his contributions to Hawkwind and founding Motörhead. And last but not least: He is an intelligent and witty debater with original opinions.

If you've ever seen Stanley Clarke live, then you would know that he is the best person on this list.

Vander also sings like a beast (often in FALSETTO, no less) while simultaniously holding his own with some of the best drummers of the rock and jazz scenes.

Strange poll - it's missed out almost all of my heroes - and the reason they're "old names" is because they're generally acknowledged to be the best. Sally Oldfield??? PUH-LEASE!!

You have assembled quite the listing. Of those, I voted for Stanley Clarke. His electric - and acoustic - bass work on RTF, Romantic Warrior, is unsurpassed for his musical and synchopatic precision on many, if not all, of the songs therein....
