...but Faith no More isn't?

They have more catchy songs and modal song scructures, but I feel they're just as progressive in nature as the other two bands.  Just listen to "Midnight Cowboy" or "King for a Day" or "Star AD".

What does everyone else think?

Prog is the new punk, becuase kids who shop at Hot Topic don't know Bill Bruford is God.

I think Zombie Eaters, The Real Thing and Woodpecker from Mars are very proggy.

Allmusic.com's biography describes them as "a mixture of metal, funk, hip-hop() and PROGRESSIVE ROCK".

Cmon, let em in!

But we CAN'T let them in, for the same reason that we can't let Queen into the archives.  If we do, that means we have to let everyone else come it too!!!!! [/sarcasm]

hmmm, well faith no more is pretty complex but ive always considered it more alternative than anything, mike pattons other projects (epsecially mr.bungle) are more prog i guess, even though ive always called it jazz-metal... but i think im the only one who calls it that.

Patton was in Faith No More, but you can't compare it to Mr. Bungle. Have you listened to Disco Volante?

And Fantomas, well, it's pretty weird. It can still be considered progressive though - especially with albums like 'Delerium Cordia'.

I own every FNM, Bungle and Fantomas disc with Disco Volante being my favorite album Patton's ever lent his vocal cords to.

Bungle and Fantomas are certainly more unconvential and erratic, but FNM is very expiremental in their own right not to mention the symphonic qualities of Roddy Bottum's keyboard work.

I think FNM just don't go far enough to be considered prog. I do love their music but I never hear quite the level of progginess as in Bungle or Fantomas. Likewise with Tomahawk.

Faith No More has been a source of inspiration for many a punk band. I, for one, have encountered (and rather enjoyed) two musical masterpieces called

No More Faith No More

and

Faith No More an We Hate Them More and More

Cheers

Incidentally, anybody who's into Bungle/FNM should check out the following bands:

Estradasphere (more jazzy, and also with Eastern European folk music and occasional bursts of death metal!)

Thought Industry (just weird)

Dog Fashion Disco (a sort of nu metal version of Faith No More with circus music [not as bad as it sounds!]; their first album is pretty dull but there's some stuff I really like on the second one)

and finally, a band I just found out about:

Sigh (From Japan: think Mr. Bungle crossed with black metal!)

Granted that ANGEL DUST is one of my favorite albums, I'm just not sure about them being prog.

But, it's true that they weren't held back categorically. They were a very interesting and adventurous band.

THE REAL THING was actually the very first album I ever bought (on tape, age 5).

They shouldn't be here.

I think having a "few proggy songs" shouldn't make someone liable to be "Prog-Rock", or even on a Prog-Rock archive.

Some people have said Metallica's "One" has some prog elements... but you couldn't fit Metallica in here if you tried.

I'm a Faith No More fan, but when it comes to putting them on a Prog website, they can f**k off.

I think that pandora's box was already opened by adding Fantomas & Mr. Bungle ...

The incessant appeals for non prog bands to be on here is becoming very tedious.I love rock music but it is not prog and does not belong on here and this includes all of Patton's bands.

oh come on let's just let every freaking band in the damn archives that ever did anything that was ever somewhat interesting

Faith No More is rap, metal, rock, NOT PROG.

Why not rename it the MikePattonProgArchives, his stuff isnt that proggy, yes it's avant garde, and interesting if you like that stuff, but hardly Progressive Rock.

Faith No More is about a tenth metal and about a twentieth rap. And not really avant-garde, either, although Fantomas obviously is, as well as Mr. Bungle to a lesser extent.

Why does everyone have to keep questioning the site Admins decisions to include bands?

They set this site up - and they decide what goes in and what doesn't.

If I was in charge, Dream Theater would be out in a heartbeat, and Muse would be in

I'd also include Mariah Carey...

Faith No More is crossover, but not even remotely rap.

Peter Gabriel ... I wonder if that is Progressive Rock. More like Avantgarde Pop, or Art Rock maybe ... see how hard it is to distinguish Avantgarde/Art/Experimental/Progressive? I can't.

This prove you didn't listen to anything of 'em, except Epic.

Now, that's a good idea!

Avant-garde normally can be classified as prog, because it is, naturally, progressive (in the true sense of word). As we don't have ANY true classification of Progressive Rock, every Avant-Garde record can be considered as a Prog record, IMO...

i mean to say they are closer to rap and metal influences than to prog rock ones, it came out wrong.

a lot of avant garde isnt really prog-rock though, its really far removed from rock

I didn't dig any Tomahawk at all. Love the Fantomas/Bungle/FNM stuff, and possibly the Melvins big band (or similar name) since I like the Melvins alone.

Tomahawk is enjoyable, their albums run out of steam real fast though.
